In 2020, Delaware’s drug overdose range category was 21.1 to 57.0. with an age-adjusted rate of 47.3. There were 444 drug overdose deaths reported in Delaware.
Opioid abuse and overdose are causing people to die. The economic impact imposes and decimates communities. Combating this problem is cumulative and costly for society.
Conclusion
Training and Educating healthcare providers on alternative and safer ways to manage acute pain may help reduce the risk of opioid misuse and substance abuse disorder.
A Healthcare Provider and Patient Paradigm Shift will require offering the patient the option with ongoing pain assessment evaluations.
Communicating expectations to patients and providing them with self-care pain management guidance can be a harm reduction long-term strategy.
Management of Acute and Chronic Pain needs to be individualized to each patient therein understanding the nature of its complexity.
