The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) has been supporting workplace health prevention since 1953. Over that period, it has become more and more apparent that we all need to take a long-term view of workplace health. This is because causes of worker ill-health and the manifestation of occupational diseases often only become obvious some time after exposure.
BOHS recognises the need to take a step back and take a more systematic and sustainable approach to managing occupational hygiene and health. The end result is demonstrably better management tools to enable the targeting and prevention of occupational exposures.
It perhaps suggests a route to a wider-scale approach which does not focus solely on aiming to detect disease and inspect against fault, but is more strategic in its approach to health risk management .
BOHS believes that this is an approach which could assist the construction sector, it could be integrated into project management and design, yielding efficiency, as well as benefits in terms of immediate and long-term health outcomes.
Let's discuss this with Kelvin Williams (BOHS President) and Dave Rogers (OHS Consultant).
