In Episode 25 of Talk of the Town, Morgan Harper sits down with Nancy McEachern, a volunteer with Berwick for a Lifetime, to talk about aging well, finding connection and helping residents stay active, informed and involved.

Nancy shares how she found community in Berwick after moving to town in 2020, first through the Berwick Public Library, then chair yoga, the walking group and eventually Berwick for a Lifetime. The conversation explores the group’s work, including the walking group, Lunch and Learn programs, the Aging Well Resource Center, digital literacy support, food delivery efforts, sand buckets and the larger goal of helping older residents remain connected and independent.

Throughout the conversation, Nancy returns to the importance of stories, neighborliness and making sure people know there are places to go, people to meet and ways to help.

Niles reflects on moving to Berwick more than 16 years ago, becoming involved with the Planning Board and Envision Berwick, and watching the town grow through the work of residents who see a need and step up to help.

A lawyer for more than 50 years, Niles also shares stories from his career in legal services and Pennsylvania state government, along with his current work teaching courses on law, history, government and the U.S. Constitution through Maine’s Senior College Network.

Throughout the conversation, Niles returns to one central idea: a strong town depends on people being informed, respecting different points of view and getting involved in whatever way they can. “Berwick is one of the most inviting towns to have people participate,” he says.
