  • Kristen Waggoner: In Defense of Women and Women's Athletics

On day one, President Biden signed an executive order that guts federal legal protections for women by allowing males into female athletics—effectively sidelining women in their own sports and forcing girls and women to share intimate spaces with males who identify as female.

ADF is currently challenging a Connecticut policy where males have taken 15 women’s state championship titles, depriving females of medals, opportunities and fair competition.

Men and women are equal, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t legitimate differences between us. We all lose when the law fails to recognize those differences—and women and girls lose the most.

Pushing back through the courts on this far left administration has never been more critical.

  • Albert Mohler: The Central Sacrament of the American Political Left

On January 22nd last week—on the day marking the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade—the new president of the United States, in office just a matter of a few days, posted this tweet, “As we mark the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, now is the time to rededicate ourselves to the work ahead. From codifying Roe to eliminating maternal and infant health disparities, our Administration is committed to ensuring everyone has access to the health care they need.”

By codifying Roe, let me explain briefly: President Biden wants to take the essential findings of Roe v. Wade, as abhorrent as they are, and make them lasting national legislative reality.

Any American who is shocked by that doesn’t deserve to be. Then-candidate Joe Biden made very clear that if he were to be elected president, he would move to legislate Roe v. Wade.

He basically supports abortion without restriction—any meaningful restriction—all the way up until the moment of birth.

All this reminds us that abortion has become the central sacrament of the political left in the United States.

  • Lanhee Chen: Rejoining the WHO

The Biden Administration announced in their first week that the US is rejoining the World Health Organization. But the WHO is a flawed group—one that has performed poorly while the world has struggled with COVID-19. Early on, the group was far too deferential to China, even parroting Beijing’s early claim that the virus could not be transmitted between humans. Since then, an independent panel concluded that the WHO dithered in its response, waiting too long to declare an international emergency. All the while, the WHO has continued to block Taiwan’s participation because of political objections from the Chinese government, despite the fact that the world has much to learn from Taiwan’s exceptional response to the virus.

Before rejoining the WHO, we should have demanded some accountability and reform from the group for the $400 million in taxpayer dollars we send to it each year. It looks like we’ll keep on writing blank checks to the WHO—which they are more than happy to keep cashing.

  • Albert Mohler: President Biden and a Unity Agenda?

President Biden issued a strong call for unity in his inaugural address, pleading, “We must end this uncivil war that pits red against blue, rural versus urban, conservative versus liberal…”

But his executive orders—signed on day one of his administration drive a hard-left agenda.

“Mr. Biden stressed unity of purpose” the New York Times wrote, “But his first actions in office are aimed not at compromise and cooperation with his adversaries, but instead suggest a determination to quickly erase much of the Trump agenda.”

The new president signed 17 executive orders, waging what the Times called a “full-scale assault on his predecessor's legacy.” That is not staking middle ground. That is not moving towards unity.

The administration threatens to be hostile when it comes to religious liberty and is going to create a very difficult situation for Christians and others whose religious convictions are incompatible with the LGBTQ revolution or the pro-abortion movement.

  • Hugh Hewitt: Operation Warp Speed and the Politics of Vaccinations

The unfortunate serial failures in the rollout of COVID vaccinations remind us again of the inherent inability of government to function efficiently because politics enters into play. Every citizen is—by Constitutional design—of equal standing in the eyes of the law. While of course the government can prioritize vaccine distribution by category of risk, these simple distinctions—people over 65 and those with underlying conditions—should have led to a self-policing and easy-to-administer system.

Yes, some would have fraudulently taken of this of self-policing. But a bit of fraud ought to be tolerated as we keep our eye on the greater good.

Operation Warp Speed delivered the vaccines to state and local governments as our federal system is designed to do. The failures in distribution lies squarely on the shoulders of state and local officials.

Citizens should note and long remember: Even with months to prepare—state and local government failed.

How much better would it have been to trust a free people to make responsible decisions.

  • Jerry Bowyer: Toward a Principled Conservatism

There seems to be a verbal civil war of sorts brewing over control of the Republican Party, and like any civil war, it pits brother against brother. The Powerbrokers of the GOP establishment face off against the Populists: power vs. populism.

Let me suggest we follow another “P”—principles.

We should unite around the fundamental principles of constitutionalism and ordered liberty, not around any particular personality, nor around the donor class or the party apparatus. We should instead unite around the founding ideas of America. We should support candidates who support the constitution and are conservative—whatever their previous or current relationship with or assessment of President Trump.

Let’s have no loyalty tests other than the constitutional one. We conservatives rightly condemned purges and purity spirals from the left, so let’s not imitate the worst in our opponents.

  • Albert Mohler: Our Task Today Is to Pray

As a nation, we have commemorated 58 presidential inaugurations. This week, we mark the 59th. On Wednesday, standing at the West Front of the United States Capitol, Joseph R. Biden, Jr. will take the oath of office as the 46th president of the United States. Even after the events of the past few weeks—especially after the events of past weeks—Americans will witness the peaceful transition of power.

A constitutional form of self-government, a government that exists by the consent of the governed, an elected chief executive, require solemnity and dignity with the transfer of power. Our Constitution requires an oath of office, and that oath is made in public, before the nation and the watching world.

All Americans, those who voted for Joe Biden and those who did not, must respect the majesty of our constitutional order and the virtues of citizenship that make it possible.

Our task today is to pray for our nation, and for our new President. May God bless the United States of America.

  • Hugh Hewitt: GOP Leaders: Looking Forward

When President Biden completes his oath of office on Wednesday, Senator Mitch McConnell goes from being the most effective Senate Majority Leader the Republicans have had in my lifetime to being the equal of the most influential Senate Minority Leader in history—given the 50/50 split in the Senate.

The GOP’s de facto leader is now McConnell. He’s certainly its most powerful figure and his vast abilities are going to be necessary as a check on the Biden Administration. To guard against a return to the appeasement that defined the Obama years, he’ll be assisted by soon-to-be former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and key leaders in the Senate like Tom Cotton of Arkansas. On the domestic front, McConnell will counsel will successful governors like Ron DeSantis of Florida and Doug Ducey of Arizona. His colleague in the House, Kevin McCarthy will remain his key partner.

But it is to McConnell that Republicans should look now—and Republicans are blessed to have him.

  • Albert Mohler: The Provocative Act of the House

The House of Representatives has just passed a new rule—and, no, it has nothing to do with impeachment.

The new rule—championed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi—establishes guidelines for language related to gender for the 177th Congress.

I’m going to read a portion exactly as it is found in the House Resolution: “In clause 8(c)(3) of rule XXIII, strike, ‘father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law ….” And the list goes on and on.

What you just heard is a disaster—an assault upon creation and an assault on the English language, and yet it’s now the rule of the United States House of Representatives.

There will be no more brothers and sisters, only “siblings.” There will be no more mothers and fathers, only “parents.”

Christians have to understand that complicity in this kind of intentional confusion will come with consequences. It’s not merely a word game.

The House cannot change nature, but it can—and has—set our nation’s official discourse at war with nature.

  • Hugh Hewitt: Joe Biden’s Opportunity

President Elect Joe Biden has a historic opportunity to meet the moment with his inaugural address. All Americans should be praying he delivers the speech of his life, and it will need to be, given the deeply divided nation he will be facing.

He will need to have an eye on the disaster of last week, the lost lives and the deep disgrace brought upon the nation. But he will also need to summon Americans to return to the politics of the postwar years, when bipartisan debate turned on how best to defend the country so that all could enjoy its blessings.

Moderation is not easy to argue for after the savage attack on the Capitol by the mob.

But it is moderation that we need now.

Partisan dangers and sweeping condemnation will not help the new president achieve what is needed. Appeals to reason and civility could help him—in Lincoln’s words—“bind up the nation’s wounds.”

… And healing is what the nation needs.
