  • Jerry Bowyer: Tesla Shareholders Push Back

I recently attended Tesla’s Annual shareholder meeting and what I saw is the future. No, not the post-fossil fuel future. I’m talking about the post-woke capitalism future. Activists pushed a slate of left-wing ballot proposals and they were voted down by the shareholders.

When activists predictably went beyond the time limit for their remarks and were cut short by the moderator, the crowd cheered. Another activist tried to discredit Musk by quoting him as saying, “not only does he not support Build Back Better, he doesn’t even pay any attention to it at all.” The crowd cheered for Musk's brush-off of the Green New Deal.

Let’s be clear: This is Tesla—electric cars, solar panels, still thoroughly committed to the global warming ideology, and even its shareholders and employees have had enough. If the Tesla shareholders are done, it’s no surprise that middle America has had more than a bellyful of it.

  • Ed Morrissey: Media Distraction Campaigns Flop at the Border

Until now, national media outlets have kept a tight lid on the border crisis and Joe Biden’s failures to put an end to it. Instead, national media has attempted to turn the midterms into referendums on Donald Trump and abortion.

The buses and flights of migrants to key media centers such as Washington DC and New York City have punctured those pretenses. Axios reports that Google searches on abortion and Mar-a-Lago have suddenly decreased – but that searches on the border crisis have “vaulted into the top ten” of all searches.

These media outlets have heavily criticized Republican governors like Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott for  conducting “stunts.” However, these transports have forced so-called sanctuary cities into declaring emergencies over tiny fractions of the traffic border states get each day. And those emergencies have forced the media to cover what it should have covered all along.

DeSantis and Abbott have reset the midterms and its coverage to its proper basis – on Joe Biden, Democrat control of Washington, and its disastrous results.

  • Bowyer: The Unstable Fed

Recent market volatility has led some to claim that markets themselves are inherently unstable. But the data do not back them up.

The up and down of “risk on” and then “risk off” sentiment is associated with the instability created by our own central bank—the Fed—which has grown into a financial colossus starting with its reaction to the Great Recession. It’s now the single largest player in our financial markets.

That's a problem in and of itself, but the other problem is that the Fed has an inherently unstable “dual mandate” from Congress.

It has the job of fighting inflation by selling investments to drive down prices and also the job of fighting unemployment by buying investments to stimulate consumer sentiment.

Every day, investors are forced to comb through the news and figure out which of the two contradicting mandates the Fed will follow next.

The Fed should stick to its original mandate, sound money, or be replaced with something that will.

  • Albert Mohler: In Defense of Religious Liberty at Yeshiva

The Supreme Court last week declined to defend religious liberty at Yeshiva University—one of the oldest and most vulnerable Jewish institutions in the United States.

It did so by rejecting—on a 5-4 majority—the appeal from Yeshiva University to stay a decision made by a state court judge in New York that would violate the very religious identity of that Jewish university.

The majority of the justices voted to allow the order of the state court to go into effect while Yeshiva seeks relief in the state courts.

The Supreme Court should have taken up this case and should have taken it up now.

Justice Alito wrote in his dissent that, “A state's imposition of its own mandatory interpretation of scripture is a shocking development that calls out for a review.”

For now, this venerable Jewish institution is going to have to suffer the violation of its convictions.

I hope all Americans hear the danger in those words.

  • Jerry Bowyer: Pennsylvanians and Dr. Oz

I’ve watched Pennsylvania Senate nominee John Fetterman’s political rise since he first ran for Mayor in nearby Braddock.

He’s 6 feet 8 inches tall, but about half an inch deep with a policy knowledge base which seldom rises above Twitter level. That was before a debilitating stroke which occurred after a period in which he simply did not take his assigned meds to deal with a diagnosed heart problem.

Perhaps this is why Fetterman has been trying to avoid debating Dr. Oz. Oz may be a TV celebrity, but he’s an M.D. and light years ahead of Fetterman intellectually.

At this point, Fetterman is pushing his one message that Oz is not from around here. In the end, that's a pretty anemic reason to elect a hard-left walking Tweet with serious health issues over a man who managed to become one of the most recognized doctors in the country.

The more Pennsylvanians get to see the candidates, the more likely Oz can win.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: What Set Queen Elizabeth Apart

With the death of Queen Elizabeth the second, the United Kingdom (and the world) have lost a very unique leader.  Contrary to the media narrative, it wasn’t the queen’s dignity, or devotion to duty, or compassion, or wisdom that set her apart. Those other attributes were only signs of the central quality that made her so special: her devotion to Christianity.

Queen Elizabeth was head of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith in fact as well as in name. And she understood that to lead truly was to serve. When she was anointed at her coronation, she believed she was set apart as God’s servant on earth, and she behaved accordingly.

What a different, better world it would be if all leaders held themselves strictly accountable to Christ, as she did. Queen Elizabeth fought the good fight, she finished the race, and she kept the faith. May she rest in peace.

  • Hugh Hewitt: Dr. Oz for Senate

Dr. Oz is the Republican nominee for Senate in Pennsylvania to replace retiring Senator Pat Toomey.

Dr. Oz’s opponent—the far left wing pseudo-socialist John Fetterman—has attacked Oz for owning luxurious homes. It’s absolutely true that Oz achieved fame and fortune as a television doctor—he’s also a skilled surgeon, but he appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show—he had his own show. And he beat a crowded field of other center-right conservatives in the hard-fought Pennsylvania primary the old-fashioned way: Oz campaigned town to town on values and issues that have powered successful Republican candidates from Reagan in 1980 to Trump in 2016.

Like the senator he aims to replace, Pat Toomey, Dr. Oz is concerned with runaway inflation and wasteful spending. He’s been extremely critical of Dr Fauci and the CDC’s lockdowns.

    Oz is a freedom guy.

Fetterman is to the left of Bernie Sanders. Oz is center-right and attracting moderates as well as conservatives and Pennsylvania voters from all economic classes and racial and religious backgrounds.

Dr. Oz ought to be the next Senator from Pennsylvania.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: Protect the Law Abiding and Lock Up the Predators

A recent story has confirmed what so many of us are feeling: Americans are paying more in taxes than they are for food, clothes, and health care combined. This is galling when government is failing in its first duty: to keep us safe.

Compared to 2019, major cities have seen almost a 40 percent spike in murders and a 36 percent increase in aggravated assaults. It’s now almost commonplace to turn on the television and see horrifying footage of attacks on innocent bystanders. All too often, we learn of senseless killings of vulnerable Americans who were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Democrats who think they’re pandering to the black voter by siding with criminals aren’t just bigoted – they’re wrong. A recent Pew Research Center survey found that fully 75 percent of black Americans support either maintained or increased spending on police.

Enough is enough. It’s time to protect the law abiding and lock up the predators.

  • Ed Morrissey: An Eye on the Fundamentals

“That warning sign is flashing again,” wrote poll analyst Nate Cohn for the New York Times this week. “Democratic Senate candidates are outrunning expectations in the same places where the polls overestimated Mr. Biden in 2020 and Mrs. Clinton in 2016.” Cohn warned that polling disasters loom yet again, largely because—and I quote: “most pollsters haven’t made significant methodological changes since the last election.” All of this despite their failures.

So: How should conservatives approach these poll results? First: Don’t panic. Recent polls based on likely voter models, which even yet may not be adequately calculated on Republican enthusiasm, show a red wave coming in November.

Most importantly: Focus on the fundamentals. Democrats and the media want to shift the election debate to Donald Trump and “ultra-MAGAs,” but voters will go to the grocery store and gas pumps a dozen times each before Election Day.

They are thinking about inflation, crime and Joe Biden’s terrible performance.

    Don’t let the polls—or legacy media—discourage you.

Register. Plan ahead … and follow through and vote.

  • Jerry Bowyer: Don’t Mimic the Left’s Self-Destructive Tendencies

President Biden's recent address to the nation was … well … deplorable.

The ominous red backlighting and gratuitous presence of Marines while he denounced a major portion of the opposition as violent insurrectionists was the opposite of what it pretended to be; it was a provocation of violence.

But we should not fall into that temptation.

No one on the right should not live down to his accusations. Leftism is grounded in the French revolution, which was insurrectionist to its core. Conservatism was formed in response to that.

Americans did not fight a revolution; it was more properly a war for independence under the command of General Washington who was under the command of a congress of the colonies.

Jesus was offered the role of insurrectionist repeatedly, and just as repeatedly rejected it. We ought to reject it as well.

Let’s stick to our principles. Don’t mimic the left’s self-destructive tendencies or take their provocations.

And then we’ll win … at the ballot box.
