In a long-awaited 2nd Amendment ruling, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that states cannot deny citizens the right to bear arms in public based on arbitrary decisions by bureaucrats on whether they have a need to do so. Clarence Thomas and the five other justices made very clear that states can regulate firearms, but only on a rational and consistent basis and without broadly infringing on this enumerated right.

The media, of course, responded hysterically to the decision in Bruen. CNN’s chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin was perhaps the most egregious as he claimed that the ruling showed that the court wanted to demolish all regulations.
 
Expect more of these hysterical reactions about this supposedly radical court.
 
This decision will reverberate through the nation. 

Justice Thomas made it clear: the plain reading of the Second Amendment shows that American citizens have the right to “bear arms” as well as to keep them. 
 
It was a victory for the Second Amendment and for the Constitution.

In a recent speech to the AFL-CIO union, President Biden said:

“I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending, we're changing people's lives. And because of the fact this year, we're delivering the biggest drop in deficit in the history of the United States of America.”

Well, he is changing people’s lives. Families having to decide whether to fill their bellies or their gas tanks. That’s a changed life. And new couples looking for a starter house and finding nothing affordable. That's also a big change.

Of course, one thing that isn't changing is the penchant of politicians to speak falsehoods. Contrary to the President’s claim, we have not had the biggest drop in the deficit in American history. Far from it.

The Congressional Budget Office just revised its deficit forecast upwards by almost $2.5 trillion dollars. What is the main cause? In plain English, it’s reckless spending.

As an anxious nation awaits the Supreme Court’s holding in a case widely expected to overturn Roe v. Wade, pro-abortion zealots have run amok. There have been dozens of attacks on churches and crisis pregnancy centers. Protestors have disrupted church services, and an abortion supporter actually attempted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Yet media coverage has been minimal. President Biden has declined to condemn any of these events. And worst of all, the Justice Department has dragged its feet in investigating the attacks against crisis pregnancy centers – even though, last September,  the Biden DOJ charged nine people simply for blocking the entrance to a Washington DC abortion provider.

There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold and the phrase “Equal justice under law” is engraved on the Supreme Court building. If leaders selectively enforce the law to conform to their political preferences, they undermine the rule of law that’s a hallmark of every free society.

A leaked memo revealed it is quite likely that in the Dobbs case the Supreme Court will overturn Roe vs Wade, restoring the abortion question to the voters. 

Having lost the political and now the legal debate, the abortion brigades are now trying to coerce corporations into pressuring states to ignore the will of the voters or else be punished economically by our new corporate masters. 

As an investor and also as a financial professional, let me be crystal clear to America's boardrooms: Stay out of it! You have neither the moral authority, the constitutional expertise nor the assigned role of undermining the sanctity of life. 

Every sector of our economy is currently being hurt by an aging demographic that results partly from the abortion revolution almost 50 years ago. 

Companies need to stick to the things they’re competent at—and leave the voters in the states to decide their own policies without the threat of economic blackmail.

The president last week was in Philadelphia at a gathering of the AFL-CIO where he said: “I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending. We’re changing people’s lives!”

Presidents rarely, even in front of friendly audiences, raise their voice as to seem to be yelling at voters. This clip will rank alongside other memorable ones with Howard Dean’s scream—John Kerry’s “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it,” and Barack Obama’s promise about keeping your doctor and your health-care plan if you liked them.

The main enemy today is inflation — ravaging the finances of every American family. Every single item in a grocery store gets there by truck or van. Most are wrapped or contained in plastic of some sort. Prices for fuel — whether gasoline or diesel — plastic and fertilizer are soaring—and therefore everything in that store is as well.

The president refuses do anything substantive about it—short of raising his own voice.

Our nation needs a course correction.

Joe Biden has labored mightily for the past year to blame everyone but himself for the rampant inflation plaguing America. In remarks last week, he blamed Vladimir Putin and corporate greed rather than Biden’s own energy policies. 

But Biden flat out lied about ExxonMobil, which he said “made more money than God.” Biden scolded a reporter by asking him to report “Exxon’s profits … this quarter,” and finished, “Exxon, start investing. Start paying your taxes.”

In fact, a review of ExxonMobil’s last quarterly report showed they paid a 32 percent rate on their taxable income, and spent almost $82 billion on costs and investments in the first quarter. 

Later, the Financial Times reported that Biden and his team were “shocked” to find out that capital investors were reluctant to invest in oil and gas production expansion. That is a direct result of Biden’s demonizing the American oil and gas sector for the last several years. 

 The demagoguery is cheap for Biden. It costs the rest of us plenty.
And we’re feeling it each time at the pump.

Finally, San Francisco got a dose of much-needed good news. Radical prosecutor Chesa Boudin was recalled from office—and it wasn’t even close. Sixty percent of those voting wanted him out.
 
Boudin has been characterized as one of George Soros’s favorite prosecutors and has received generous indirect support from him. But his tenure was disastrous for the people of San Francisco. 

Among other radical policies, he ended cash bail and stopped using sentencing enhancements that kept gang members in jail. Boudin created a perverse climate. where criminals ran the streets and the law-abiding cowered in fear. 

Boudin tried to claim the recall was a Republican ploy. But GOP voters are only 7% of San Francisco’s total. This was a Democratic intraparty struggle – the moderates against the left. 

Or, perhaps more accurately, the commonsense against the crazy. And this time, commonsense won. Let’s hope it continues.

The left tells America our biggest threat comes from violent right-wing extremists. 

But that narrative’s hard to square with recent events. An armed man was arrested near Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home and charged with attempted murder. 

Yet President Joe Biden still hasn’t condemned the assassination attempt, and not a single Sunday show covered it. The New York Times ran it – on page A20 below the fold. 

Likewise, pro-abortion group “Ruth Sent Us” posted the name of the school attended by the children of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett. The group suggested protests occur there. 

Until now, threatening the safety of any public official’s children has been simply unthinkable. But again, no one on the left has denounced this deranged behavior. Are they indifferent to it, or just too afraid of their own extremists? 

Either way, it’s a big problem for all of us.

We’re looking a bear market—with U.S. markets recently down as much as 20 percent. That’s twice as big a drop as it takes to qualify as a bear market. 

So why is this happening? 

Because there’s no easy way off of a bubble. During the Great Recession, the U.S. government poured truly staggering amounts of money into the financial system—and then the Covid crisis brought on another flood of new money. 

This created massive stock and bond bubbles … and along with it, inflation. The fed then faced a no-win scenario. Keep the spigots open—and see inflation worsen. Or: Shut off the tap—and watch the markets tank.

After enough bad choices, eventually things get so bad that there's no easy way out. 
 
But there is a right way out: Bite the bullet; take the pain. Reduce the money supply, break the back of inflation, and cut spending. It won't be easy, but it worked in the 1980s. It can work now.
