Toxic positivity can look like:
Saying yes when you mean no, or vice versa.
Telling others you are fine when you aren't.
Lying to yourself with words that are untrue.
Forcing yourself to feel a certain way (better) when you feel bad.
Telling others to avoid certain feelings, or other quippy responses like "this too shall pass."
Appeasing others expectations of you or how you should feel.
Not being transparent with your partner.
We've become a culture that hides our authentic feelings in effort to appear like we have it all together. There's a sense of shame that afflicts us if we are having a difficult time, or feel low, not put together or successful. As if emotions determine our success.
