I am torn about this next blog post. I videoed a young buck that had hurt his left front shoulder/leg. As shown in the video below, he was limping pretty bad. I only have one tag left and 2 full months of hunting so I decided not to shoot him.

My favorite kind of hunting is anytime I can hunt with my Dad and son. Since my Dad and I had tagged out with bucks, we decided to both sit with Tad and try to get him a buck. We hunted hard for 4 days but the weather changed and big buck movement stopped. We saw some small bucks but Tad has killed small ones before and I wanted him to wait. Shown below is a video of us 3 goofing off with some interaction with deer and a bunch of turkeys in a tower stand.

Now that I was tagged out in GA, I started sitting with my Dad videoing him. The first evening we saw this awesome 2 1/2 year old 8 point tending this doe. I was impressed how well he was doing it as shown in the video below. We tried to make this buck grow in real time, but we will have to wait till next year or the year after that.

On my way out from hunting, I came across 2 shooter bucks bedded down with a doe. I could not get a shot and the doe got up and eased further into the pine thicket. I knew they were going to stay bedded and I could come back that evening. There were 2 tower stands on an 8 acre oats food plot on a power line right of way and I figured they would get up and feed in this food plot. I was sitting in a tower stand videoing my Dad the next day after tagging out with a big 7 pointer, when we had an encounter with the buck we call Crab Claw 10 Jr. Crab Claw 10 Jr. appeared in the back door of our tower stand and my Dad looked up and saw him. Well, I start this post by saying I was wrong. When you hunt, you have to set your expectations as to what you want to shoot ahead of time. I captured a series of photos of a nice buck lock down with a doe at one of our feed stations. He beds down while she feeds. Once she gets up, he jumps up to follow her. It is amazing the story trail camera photos can tell sometimes. I put in a video to give it some animation.

Now if you have read any of the postings on this blog, you know how much I love my trail cameras and how I like to use them. A few weeks ago, I tested and am now the proud owner of 2 PlotWatcher time elapse cameras. I wanted to discuss how I am using both of these cameras for my different scouting applications.

I was very concerned about hunting this past weekend due to the fact it was during the full moon phase. So I was pleasantly surprised by how many deer I saw moving, mostly during the morning hours. One thing I learned was that a trail camera photo of a buck can be misleading and distorted. I have written about the buck we call No Brow Jr. a few times. Opening weekend was uneventful. I filmed a few does and fawns and this video is shown below. I would not consider this the October lull because I saw plenty of deer. Young bucks are scrapping and I even saw a few trailing does. According to our trail cameras, the big bucks seem to be moving more outside their core area but just not during the day.
