Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Every so often, we have to change the regular format and what you expect from our shows and surprise you, the listeners, a little bit. Instead of the normal co-host duo you're familiar with, we gave Jason the night off and brought in two new (yet familiar) co-hosts for this special Collector's Edition! Collin and Val jump on for one night only (until the next time) to finally help get this episode recorded, finally.

Well, we made it back from our adventures in California! After a week of covering all the news from E3, Universal Studios and Harry Potter World, and the two Disney parks - Disneyland and California Adventure - we have resumed our regularly scheduled lives back in the real world. Despite still recovering from the Butterbeer hangovers we had, we can't help but do what we do best … podcasting about toys!

First, we announced the details of the first ever Toys For Games Battlecast Tournament, with sign-ups officially open! After that, we talk about the final release for Disney Infinity, Tails being left out of LEGO Dimensions, a Crash "expansion level" in Imaginators, and the first ever glow-in-the-dark amiibo!

After two full days of seeing everything that E3 had to offer, especially in terms of the toys-to-life genre, it was only fitting that we recorded Episode 77 from the hotel room. Once again, we brought SCL Matt in on the fun, and had ourselves quite the post-E3 show! With trips to Universal Studios and Disneyland in our immediate future, this episode had to happen tonight … or not at all!

We started off talking about our E3 experiences, before getting right into the news. Because we felt that Crash Bandicoot joining Skylanders in the upcoming Imaginators game was such big news, we decided to podcast about it, live from our E3 hotel room! We first chatted about some news nuggets we learned today about the upcoming Year 2 of LEGO Dimensions, but then we got down to business, breaking down everything we currently know about Crash becoming an honorary Skylander.

In this very special episode of the Toys For Games 'cast, we have an abbreviated show yet an incredibly focussed one. Despite technically being on vacation, there was no way we wouldn't be doing a podcast after the day it was in the toys-to-life world.

We start off with the growing momentum of the Crash Bandicoot in Skylanders rumors, and discuss why we think it's a good thing and don't understand the hate for it. Then, we get to the reason we expected to be doing this show in the first place, which of course was the official announcement of Year 2 of LEGO Dimensions. We break down the trailer, press release, and every other bit of news we can find with as much excitement and anticipation as you would expect!

In the last full, normal show before we collectively head down to California for E3 and a week full of adventures and good times, we finally get to talk to the one and only Robert Welkner from Coin-OP TV! After all, it was Best Friends Day, and what better friend to have on then someone we've never had on before! Don't worry, we had another best friend on the show later on as well.

We chatted with Rob about his time in the video game industry, his DVDs and IMDB page, his presence all over the internet, and of course, Skylanders Imaginators, since he got to see a special presentation at Activision Studios a couple of weeks ago. We knew this day was coming eventually, and with less than two weeks before E3, a new Skylanders game announcement was imminent. After dealing with the loss of Disney Infinity, and the giant question marks surrounding LEGO Dimensions, a sure thing already announced was the sixth Skylanders title coming later this year. What we didn't know was, well, everything else about it. That is, until the morning of June 1.

To help us break down the announcement of Skylanders: Imaginators, we invited none other than a perennial powerhouse on this show, Matt Sonnenberg, aka SCLMatt! We discuss everything we know and think we know about the sixth title from the Activision franchise. After a busy couple of weeks trying to make sense of the Disney Infinity cancellation, and doing our best to bring peace and understanding to the community still heartbroken about the news, Episode 73 was finally our chance to try and find normalcy for this podcast.
