The Periodic Table of Awesome Podcast

TPToA Podcast 402 – TV Roundup Part 1! Reacher, Invincible, Severance + Sinners

Listen Later

Sinners, Reacher, Invincible and Severance.

We are doing our best to keep ahead of all the amazing TV releases out there at the moment, and seemingly we’re failing pretty miserably occasionally. So in an effort to make up ground, we are doing two TV roundups of what’s hot on the box. This week is Reacher Season 3, Invincible Season 3 and the second huge season of Severance. But as we had to move the show to accomodate a screening, we have also included a special bonus review of the film we saw; Sinners – The new film from Ryan Coogler, starring Michael b Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld and many many more.

Dion, Jill and Quinny are the ones getting square eyes this week, so we hope you appreciate the many hours they have spent in front of the TV (and movie screen) for you…

Sinners Synopsis:

Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Dion

Yeah, yeah, I’m ready. We’re all ready. Let’s go. It’s absolutely one.

Speaker

See you later.

Dion

Percent time for the periodic table of awesome. I’ll be your collegiate.

Quinny

Person, Dion, you’re you’re what? You’re collegiate person.

Dion

Collegiate person isn’t, I guess is that I’m not sure. Like I’ve run out of.

Jill

He ran out of adjectives.

Speaker 6

And.

Speaker 7

I did.

Dion

I I guess yeah. I’m still confused about severance. Look, to be honest. That’s it. Alright. OK, fine. Everyone, everyone there. I’m confused about severance.

Quinny

That, that’s.

Dion

To me, severance is something I try to avoid, especially if my boss walks in and goes. I would like to discuss severance and I’m like please no.

Quinny

Hmm. Unless there’s an extraordinarily good package to go along with that severance.

Dion

Yeah. Well, we just watched Milchak. That was quite a package that went along with severance, indeed.

Speaker 7

Yeah.

Quinny

And as as you said, Jill, that man couldn’t move.

Speaker 7

Yeah. Hello to Jill and hello to Cody and hello to me. We’re here and hello to everyone.

Dion

In the chat, yes, that’s right. Talk about milkshake doing the March. That’s what we want.

Quinny

We love Mr. Milk milkshake.

Jill

Milchak brings all the boys to the ohh Karina.

Dion

Yeah, on this. Made that joke, sorry. On this very special time of Wednesday podcast, because we had to go to a screening last night which we and add it to the end of the podcast. But first we have the first of our TV.

Speaker 1

Hmm.

Speaker 6

You talk about.

Dion

Roundups. Yep, **** I don’t have a whip. I could have that. Yeah. What is this?

Quinny

Sorry, sorry. I’m going to be friends, Jason.

Speaker 1

Paul.

Dion

Ohh no gross. Ross is the worst character.

Speaker 8

I’m sorry.

Quinny

I thought that was.

Jill

Was it a Chandler thing?

Quinny

I thought that was a Bing thing. Yeah, because I’m pretty sure Chandler couldn’t say.

Jill

Second, second risk. Character.

Quinny

Yeah, hang on. So Ross was the.

Speaker 7

Worst. Wait. This is why would you leave a friend?

Dion

We’re not gonna win into this. You get.

Jill

Distracted. Yeah. Yeah. How long? How long project?

Quinny

I don’t know because I’m. I’m. I’m intrigued to know your rating.

Dion

System this is going down. This is going down the road. We can’t do like there were too many episodes of friends and I haven’t watched enough of.

Quinny

Them no like the printer changes on where. With power rankings. Let’s go. Where would we put Gunter? No, we’re not gonna do that because. It’s a terrible show.

Jill

OK, from bottom to top, we got Ross, we got Chandler, we got Monica, then Rachel and tied for first is Joey and Phoebe done.

Dion

Thank you. Thanks, Jill. Jill’s power rankings of friends, please go for her in the chat. Not here.

Quinny

You can put Ross as the power bottom, however.

Dion

Yes, right. The first of the, because we’re doing another round up after Easter when we’re. All full of chocolate. What changed that?

Speaker 1

Dude, dude, dude, make us podcast. We’re full of chocolate.

Dion

Which will again.

Quinny

Isn’t that child’s name Gunter as well? Yes.

Dion

Top, top tier, intersectionality. There you go. I love that.

Quinny

That soup Nazi has bosoms.

Jill

Our millennial power.

Quinny

Didn’t match up anything if we tried.

Jill

Quotability OF2000 TV.

Dion

Right. No focus, focus. Team focus. OK, we’re doing severance tonight and also reaches season 3 and Invincible Season 3 and a little bit of talk about a movie we went to last. Night, which is called sinners, which. Hey, if you’re paying attention, I may have added to the show from last week, but it wasn’t out. I forgot that. And then I. Amended that when I was like, Oh yeah, ****. I’ve done that a bit too early, but we’re here. Now which is. Good. Yeah. Yeah. Right. And spent the time with the television that we all know and love. With all these seasons.

Speaker 1

Hmm.

Jill

Yes, the warm glow of the LED.

Dion

‘S The warm, the warmth, the warmth. Yes, one of those flat screens is usually called that. Yeah, that’s the the the warming. Section of my house now. OK. Hands up and let’s be honest about all of this. Who’s seen all the television that we’re talking about tonight? Severance.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Yes, OK, great. Richer. Yes and invincible. Yay.

Quinny

A little.

Jill

Oh.

Dion

OK, so right.

Quinny

Which I do feel really bad about because I really enjoyed season 1 of invincible. And then something just made me go. I’ve had too much nihilistic superhero stuff. Around about the time that the season 2 came out and I’d just watched a bunch of the boys and I was like, I can’t do this. I can’t. I can’t do the the violent superhero stuff.

Speaker

Yeah. Right.

Quinny

So look, it’s still there and I’ve watched a little bit of it and gone. Oh, OK, right now I see.

Dion

Where we’re at. Well, I’m here to spoil the entire narrative. For you, if you haven’t got around to it, so we just, you don’t even have to watch it. I watch it so you don’t have to.

Speaker

Dion

Yeah, yeah. Amazing. Well, since we watched the interesting trailer, even though some people haven’t finished severance. Ohh, that’s that’s gonna make that tough. Yeah. I mean, I I talk about it as a thematic thing because I don’t really want it spoiled because it’s still ******* confusing for me. But I just kind of like how it’s crafted. That’s that’s how I’m gonna review season 3.

Quinny

Oh no.

Speaker

Oh. Yeah.

Jill

Yeah.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

And if you like, you don’t want spoilers. Hey, you know, I understand if you have to drop out, that’s fine. But I will want to discuss a few things first. Goats. What the ***** up?

Speaker

Yeah.

Dion

With the goats.

Quinny

No, no mammalian natural.

Jill

Correct, I saw. The greatest real and it was someone pretending that they’re.

Dion

The the writer on Stafford, and they’re like I just gave them all these ideas. I don’t know what’s happening. What am I gonna do? They keep telling me to do all this stuff, but I don’t know what I’m doing. And I’m like, yeah, that kind of.

Jill

That’s it, you. Know that just threw everything at the wall and it’s like, are we going to get explanations for?

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

Some of this stuff. Probably not.

Dion

I mean, you know, and I did require the recap. Thank you for the love of God, people who make recap episodes, even even the actual shows like, hey, did you miss everything? It’s like, here’s the recap. I’m like, oh, thank Christ. Yes. Excellent. It brings all stuff back, you know, they’d gone out and they’d find their innies find they got to be outies for a little minute, and then they were discovered that they were innies and outies and all this kind of problematic stuff. And and it came back.

Speaker

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1

MHM.

Quinny

It was the overtime solution and there was the whole thing.

Dion

Yeah. Yeah. And it was good that they did that and dropped us back into the world of Lululemon. Oh, sorry. Lumon industries.

Quinny

Wow, you have ruined that for everyone now, congratulations.

Speaker 7

Dion

I just love the idea that the activewear company is is kind of like lumen industries from severance. It’s like no faster, sleeker, tighter. You know, you missed your paper clip on this edge. It’s like, OK, right.

Speaker

Yeah.

Dion

I mean.

Speaker 6

Yes.

Dion

Yes, this more. Like I like, you know, it was always. It always left you with questions. In this season 2 like, yeah, kind of answers one or two ish in the terms of like, what were people? What have people been doing? But did it actually answer any questions about our focus going on? No, still no.

Quinny

And left it very open like I I was impressed by the last sort of sequence ending, if you will, because. If you ended the series there. It would feel completely like. Complete. You know you’d be like, OK, that was an.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah.

Dion

Ending, yeah.

Quinny

If you don’t end this areas there, there’s still ****, tons of stuff and there’s heap of questions to still be answered. Yeah. And you can explore a thing for another 1-2, three, whatever seasons. But if it did end in on that last shot, you’d be like **** right. Oh ****.

Speaker

Shoot.

Dion

Like, it’s not a terrible place to end, but. Like also I want I want. I want to know the. We’ve got it, I mean.

Jill

Yeah, I mean we we kind of got half of a resolution, didn’t we? And then it was like, oh, ****. OK. Well, now, where are we going to go and what kind of answers are we gonna get next season?

Speaker

Hmm.

Dion

Yeah, and like, well still, what is it all about? And who the **** is this cult of Kier? Who does all of the weird **** and found it? And what does it mean? And still don’t really know what that was. And you know, even though they kind of explained what the numbers were, they still didn’t really understand what the numbers were, no.

Quinny

Didn’t really no. And and like we we kind of have a pretty clear idea as to what was going on with the whole Cold Harbor thing. And what Gemma was doing sort of but sort.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Jill

Of but.

Quinny

Not really, not really. Like you know that she’s been had multiple severed personalities. Hmm. Or experiences or something like that. That’s pretty clearly explained. But why? Yeah. And what does what does? Being able to sever a person multiple times actually do to a person and.

Dion

And the whole like. Yeah, it’s just like it’s a set of personality, a real person and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, that, that, those those things were explored.

Quinny

Oh man. Quite well, there was. There was a ******* great sequence where the two halves of mark were talking to each other.

Jill

That was great. Yeah, I really enjoyed.

Quinny

That and I I like the way that they did it. I like the whole thing of. OK, you’ve got a video camera you’re talking to yourself piece by piece, but at the same time, I really love the questions they’re asking. Like.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

You know, so just because you were here first, does that mean that you have more right to exist? Do I just stop existing where where?

Dion

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, all all those fun things and more.

Jill

I have to say I lost a bit of respect for Mark in this season after seeing what Gemma went through in her outty life. I think Mark was a bit of a ***** ** ****.

Quinny

Hmm.

Jill

To be honest.

Dion

But does that not also raise more and other interesting questions that people are like the the ANNIES seem to be the best versions of yeah, of their outfits counterparts. Yes.

Jill

They seem to kind of be a bit purer. Don’t. They.

Dion

Yeah, and and that is an interesting kind of thing that put out there. You know that’s, you know that’s why they have a very structured rigid system inside is because we’re here to help you be your best and it’s kind of like, yeah, well, they are they they are kind of the best. Like it looks like a good. Kind of deal because outside most of the time they’re everyone’s a bit of a piece. Of ****, yeah. What can homogeny do for you?

Quinny

Yeah, but feel nice to to not have to worry about your history, your, your past or whatever. Yes, it would, apart from the fact that you don’t know that you didn’t have that, that you don’t have any of those worries. So all you’ve got to worry about is the things in.

Speaker 7

Or never.

Quinny

Front of you.

Dion

Or never being able to see the. Aye. Yeah. Yeah. Or like sort of constantly being barraged by radiation that’s making sure, like, you know, waves of something that’s making sure that you’re in one personality at a certain time. Hey, I don’t know. I’m still putting **** together.

Speaker

Yep.

Quinny

There were some great moments in the season though, like the the moment where Irving made Hellie reveal like the the whole thing of Hellie reveal in the in the what was the opto or the? Uh.

Speaker

Oh.

Jill

Remember what it was called?

Quinny

Yeah, it had a particular thing, but. That was a hell of a thing. Like, that was a ******* great sequence. And and I love the fact that they then the next episode, you’re like, oh, ****. How is this gonna play out and everything? And like next episode? Like, totally ******* blind side you with a history episode which has got nothing to do with. Anything else? Yeah. Like yeah.

Dion

Artbo, that was what? It was that’s outdoor or something like it. Retreat and team building occurrence.

Speaker 7

Going on the York bow.

Speaker 8

There’s so many weird.

Quinny

Things in that too, like, you know the the other versions of of the lead cast which like the the the weird pointing versions of of the the main.

Speaker

Yes.

Quinny

These. Who the **** were? They were. They weird clones, are they?

Speaker

Hmm.

Dion

Yeah.

Quinny

Robots or what? Who the **** knows? The thing I find funny about the show more than perhaps anything else is that you could, if you wanted to, spend at least 5 to 10 times longer watching the new Rock stars, ******* recaps and and dissections. Then you could the entire show.

Dion

I mean, you know, I don’t want to.

Jill

Yeah, an hour, an hour speculative video after hour speculative show is, yeah, probably not how I want to. Spend my time, no.

Dion

I I gotta say in this season though, I really enjoyed the expansion of Patricia Patricia Arquette. Cobell’s character gave her a little bit more to work with because she was a bit bonkers. But I still think she’s doing a great scenery eating certain thing.

Speaker 9

Yeah.

Quinny

Oh, he’s having so much fun.

Dion

And. Seth Milchak, like his his growth as a character too, has been really interesting.

Jill

Also like the the race elements that were kind of coming into it in, in the corporate industry and like that kind of conversation.

Quinny

Oh God.

Dion

Yeah.

Jill

That, like, he’s not exempt at lumen from that kind of ********.

Dion

And I love I love. I love this presented. It’s just ********. It’s just kind of like, oh, this is just corporate ********.

Speaker

That.

Quinny

But the the way that it is sort of shown in that the through the. Not even microaggressions. They are like macro aggressions, but they are like, still veneered with corporate. You know approval, we’re going to give you this beautiful set of paintings that are the history of Kia, but they’re going to be black Kia.

Dion

And cause that’s for you.

Quinny

That’s for you and the the look between the the lady who’s the voice of the board.

Jill

Yes.

Quinny

And him the like. There’s so much **** going on that you’re just watching. ******* great acting too. Yeah, like ohh yeah.

Dion

Naturally, is that character.

Quinny

Natalie, thank you. Yep. Yep.

Dion

Yeah, look, you know, severance is continuing to be tense and weird and strange, and some people don’t like it. Some people really ******* hate severance. Yeah, yeah. I was like, oh, and some people don’t even know where it is because it’s. On Apple TV.

Jill

Yeah, but I feel like it got a lot of exposure with this second season. It really popped off on. Social media massively.

Dion

Yeah, that’s good. Maybe that’s what people are figuring out like, ohh. It’s a show about corporate drones.

Speaker 1

Hmm.

Dion

I’m a corporate drone. Maybe I can. Oh, oh. Yeah.

Jill

Umm.

Quinny

I think a lot of people assumed it was gonna be a a real comedy like.

Jill

Oh.

Quinny

Because you know, you see the name Ben Stiller. You see Adam Scott, John Turturro, John turturro. You’re thinking. Ohh, is this gonna be like, a an office comedy in the vein of office space? No, no. It’s really not.

Dion

I mean, it’s kind of like office space. You’re 1 character until something happens, and then you’re another character.

Quinny

Yes. Is there a stapler in?

Dion

I can. It I hope that ******* is.

Quinny

There needs to be. Yeah. Yeah, I.

Dion

Stationary. Affordable. That department.

Quinny

I’m looking forward to the next season and the best thing that I’m happy about is knowing that it’s not gonna be another ******* 3. Years, yeah, good. Yeah, and yeah, paper, paper clips. That does indeed count.

Speaker 1

Look at this.

Dion

Yes, great. Even more weird, even less explained. Even though they did a whole season with more of this story, I am still as confused as ever, which is a good thing for a show. You know, it’s shot beautifully. Everyone is like the production. Design is amazing. I love the money that they’ve spent on it.

Quinny

The this the cinematography and stuff where they like, there are a couple of episodes like the the opening sequence of the first episode of the season where he’s running through all the corridors. Yeah, ******* incredible. And then I think somewhere in the middle there’s a couple of, oh, it was the the episode that was shot entirely.

Speaker 1

Yes.

Quinny

By the DOP. And that episode has some spectacular cinematography that’s all in camera, and it’s there’s a bunch of it that everybody was like. What do you mean that’s in camera like cause it’s bits where the camera would fly up into the ceiling, down through the middle of the thing, through all of the pipes, and you’d see all the Internet pipes and everything like that. And then it would come out in the middle of a sequence in another room. And and it’s like, what do you mean? That was ******* like in camera.

Dion

Which episode was this?

Speaker 10

Yes.

Quinny

I think this is episode. I wanna say 5. Let me just double.

Dion

Check like. I didn’t know that. I mean, there’s always probably stuff that’s checked in that I’m just not. I’m watching going. Hey, fight episode. And I’m like, wow. Oh, OK, right. That was all one one shot or something.

Quinny

It was the one that was all. Of the flashbacks to Gemma and Mark’s life.

Dion

Ohh right, OK.

Quinny

yeah

Dion

Cheeky bardo.

Quinny

Yes.

Dion

Right. I’m good to know. Now I want to go back and watch him again.

Quinny

Hmm. So yeah, directed by Jessa. Jessica Lee ganier. I’m. I’m going with that pronunciation. And yeah, if you can find any of the making of stuff for that particular episode in ******* credible. Like, she’s been the DOP for the for the whole show. In that episode, she was. You said you go direct the actual episode and she just ******* knocked the ****. So.

Jill

There was another feature that I saw and I think it. Was. It was the episode where they were all returning to the office and they were coming down the. The lift 1 by 1, so they were coming into the lumen office, going to their locker and then going to the left and it matched up. Second, the second with an episode in the previous season that must have been the last one, and it’s timed to perfection coming out of the lift into the foyer downstairs at Lumen. That was, that was amazing as. Well.

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

Just the attention to detail in the series.

Dion

Yeah.

Jill

Is like another reason to watch.

Quinny

Yeah, yeah, it’s it’s a TV show, that is, you know, reveling in the fact that it gets time to to tell stories and you know, really. Stretch people and creative and I I love that and I think there’s that feeling that it could very easily have been like another lost where it’s like, I don’t know what the folks going on. There’s a smoke monster. Ah.

Speaker

Hmm.

Jill

Yeah. I mean half.

Quinny

And apparently writers.

Jill

The half the stuff they. Chucked in, lost and was never explained.

Quinny

Nope. And the writers apparently do love lost because they they reference it quite regularly through, like, different numbers on screens and stuff. Other numbers from the freaking the bunker, but.

Speaker 1

Oh, OK.

Dion

I mean, considering there’s been $200 million. But.

Jill

Wow, really?

Dion

Yep, like that’s the public available for you. Like, you know, you’re getting. You’re getting like they’re, hey, they spend more money on something like avatar, but still. Yeah, I would rather watch severance Season 1 and 2 again rather than another avatar.

Quinny

Are you are you trying to tell me you’re not excited for Avatar? Something of fire and?

Dion

Ash. What? What? No, I’m. I’m equally as excited as I was for the first avatar. Which was quite excited. And then I have 20 minutes and I was like, what is this? This is not what I was thinking. Did they just call something unobtainium, but they picked it up. It’s obviously obtainium. You’re holding it in your hand.

Jill

When you refine it, it becomes obtainium.

Speaker 1

Hmm.

Quinny

Absolutely. Either that, or it’s a quantum kind of material and when it’s not.

Dion

Who’d who’d you call? A mineral unobtainium when it’s sitting in front of you, it’s like that’s unobtainium. So I can’t. I can’t touch it. Like if I go to the quantum thing and my hand will pass through, it’s like, Nope, Nope, no. You can just pick it up.

Quinny

That is correct. It’s it’s. It’s it’s Schrodinger’s Mcguffin.

Dion

Yeah, I was gonna say.

Jill

Chekov stadium.

Quinny

Thought you said Chekov.

Dion

And I I also I also love now it’s like we’ve stripped the resources from our planet. Now it’s time to come and kill the indigenous population of another planet and take their resources like Ohh, we’re the bad guys.

Speaker

Speaker 1

We’re always the bad.

Dion

Guys, we’re always the bad guys, Colonia. Realism. All right, I think this is enough about severance season 2. I didn’t. There’s not really any spoilers that it was more like how did that.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Go it was like. Great. Keep going. Yeah, I want more.

Quinny

I like Gwendolyn Christie, you know? Yeah. I’m glad she got to do some stuff.

Dion

Yes. Yeah. I mean, she didn’t even really understand what the goats were for.

Quinny

No.

Dion

And I like that. I like actors for like, I don’t know, but it was fun, right? It looks great. There’s.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah.

Dion

Something going on there?

Quinny

Rock up, do some stuff and I also. But one thing I will say about it before we leave it, I was bemused by the fact that they did more advertising for the show after it had aired than they did while it was airing all before it. Weird. Yeah, like they did big, like press events and big activations, like there was heaps of **** like they did an activation in Sydney on the ******* steps of the. The house after the show had finished airing. Yeah, it’s really weird. Like they did all of this stuff with, you know, the the Haley Centre and stuff. You know, the US where, like, they had marching bands come in with milchak leading them and all sorts of **** like that, and it’s like. I think they’ve realized ohh **** this is now sitting there permanently, so we need to drive people to it.

Speaker

Hmm.

Quinny

But it’s just such a. Weird thing where you’re advertising after.

Dion

Yeah, yeah. Look like also. Sorry, I forgot to say, share that to ditch and lock. Finally, we get to see her doing a little bit of acting properly, which is great, and we get to see Tramell Tillman Mr. Milchak soon in the next Mission Impossible. The last Mission Impossible film. Apparently he’s in that, too. Yeah. So, yeah, apparently it was.

Speaker 6

Quinny

Oh really? Ohh really.

Jill

Dion

Main character in that one I was like. OK, great. Cool. So British severance go see. It. Keep talking about it. It’s great. It’s an art piece. It’s not like Game of Thrones, which is like, here’s some sex and Dragons and you know, ohh cool things and stuff like this was like, oh, here’s something for your brain.

Speaker

Right.

Dion

Clean.

Speaker

Hmm.

Quinny

I it’s funny, somebody said. I think we were talking about it like, you know, when the show finally has enough faith in itself to stop doing sex scenes, you know, like the when a show has jumped the shark. This is the opposite. It’s gotten over the hump. But I like the fact that. That severance didn’t feel the need to be shocking or anything.

Dion

No.

Quinny

It just like. I’m gonna reel you in with interesting.

Dion

****, I know. I love that that House of the Dragon had to do an underground **** club.

Jill

Yeah. Those people say they haven’t done that yet.

Speaker 7

Yeah, yeah. No, they did. They did in house.

Dion

I think in.

Quinny

Is it competitive? *******.

Dion

Ohh it was some weird like **** sequence where? Who’s the Doctor Who? There’s Matt Smith. He took that Australian actress. Yeah, yeah. Millie Alcock into like, even though they’re related like, you know, niece and uncle and into this weird **** scene.

Speaker

I’m sorry.

Jill

Incest is nothing new in Game of Thrones.

Dion

No, just Chuck it around. Nowadays they put it in, you know.

Jill

White.

Dion

White Lotus. I’m not talking about White Lotus, so we’re. Going to talk about.

Quinny

Yeah, I I. Have this season, or in fact any of.

Dion

It which one are we gonna do? Richer or invincible? Which one? Which which? Quick. Quick. Make a choice. Make an assessment. Right. Fine, it’s invincible.

Jill

Speaker 10

Yeah. Over the last 90 days, Mark speed has increased 65%, his endurance 70% and his strength 138%.

Speaker 6

**** me. Way to make a fellow superhero feel inadequate. Glad it’s not leg day.

Speaker 9

You feel like trying out those new? Muscles of yours.

Speaker 2

Sir, we have intense geological events all over the country.

Speaker 11

You’re working with DA Sinclair. He turned people into monsters.

Speaker 9

You don’t waste people like that. You reform them. You killed Angstrom levy. Should I lock you up?

Speaker 11

Too, you know, that was different.

Speaker 9

We can be the good guys or we can be the guys that save the world. We can’t be both.

Dion

Kid, Omni man is here.

Speaker 8

He told me the O was for Oliver.

Speaker 2

Cecil, I ever trust you with either Mark or Oliver’s lives, no matter what. Ouch.

Speaker 11

Oliver, you got to look out for other people. Guys are in big trouble.

Speaker 8

Ohh you wanna call for help? Too bad.

Speaker 2

You’re outnumbered and outclassed and out.

Speaker

Of. Look.

Speaker 11

And now I say something.

Speaker 8

With you on our side, we can win this war. I’m not on anyone’s side. I just graced my people. Help me Mark and whatever that other kids name is. Stop the empire.

Speaker

What are you hiding in here?

Speaker 9

The white room is for my protection.

Speaker

Protection from what?

Speaker 9

From you mark.

Speaker 11

Said oh, you got. I will never work for you again. We are done.

Speaker

It’s time for a change.

Speaker 8

In more ways than one.

Speaker

You look amazing. I don’t know. It was a little serious.

Speaker 6

But it’s not.

Dion

Serious it’s 100% not serious. It’s invincible season 3, you know, hot on the back of Invincible Season 1 and Invincible Season 2. We’ve got mark. He’s back and he’s invincible. Or is he still?

Jill

I don’t even ******* remember how much. Of this ****, I’ve. Watched, I know I watched the first season. And I know I saw it there, sitting on prime again. I’m like, oh, yeah, I should go back and watch that. And then, like, I queued up the next episode. Don’t remember what season it was. And I’m like. Yeah. No, I ******* hate this now. Bye. Turned it on. Yeah. So I’m not going back, unfortunately.

Quinny

Wow.

Speaker 11

Look.

Dion

Jill’s reviewed not. Going back. But we will go back to reach. Yes, reach Rd. reach. The other one.

Speaker 7

Look, it’s being the only one who’s seen it. We’ll just we’ll.

Quinny

My word.

Dion

Keep it short and sweet, yeah.

Quinny

OK, I I wanna ask. You before you dive into it down.

Speaker

Joe.

Quinny

So what was season 2 like? Because we’re talking of season 3 of invincible here.

Dion

Yeah.

Quinny

Was season 2 good enough to keep you going and go? I wanna watch Invincible season 3. Did you enjoy it?

Dion

Not particularly because it was kind of split up into two parts like there was. It was kind of a double parter and it didn’t. It just introduced a few more people and didn’t really resolve anything because you know, it’s mark, he’s a teenager. He finds out his dad is evil. Superman, that’s shocking enough. And then dad *****. Off and then. He’s talking about coming to terms with his power and, you know, trying to, you know, hook up with his. Crush, which is Adam Eve. And then during season 2 everything goes ******* sort of haywire and he eventually tracks down his dad and finds out that his dad has had another kid. Yeah, exactly. And so he has a step, brother, but his dad gets, you know, arrested basically by the evil people. It’s very complicated. There’s lots of **** going on. But.

Quinny

Good.

Dion

It was a bit disjointed and I, and I only watched season 3, I have to admit because it was easily digestible and I was doing other stuff and I kind of had it on the. Background. So I even I was playing a bit of catch up like hang on. What about that? Who’s that character? Why is this going on? What’s going on there? But season 3, I think in this one its strength really lie with the moral complexity of superheroes, the ideas of superheroes and deciding what is good. Or evil? In a grander scheme of things, which is? You know much. Not really what you’re. Expecting from a cartoon with **** jokes and other stuff and. And you know, like I have to say, everyone has growth. So it’s interesting to watch characters that are, like cartoonish stereotypes have reasons and justifications or growth or understand things. So I think Season 3 is actually quite good. Like, yeah, it kind of. I think it it fixed a lot of the issues that it sort of wrote itself into in season 2.

Quinny

Dion

And sort of came around to a better idea of who are these people and why are they doing what they do? And is it inherently evil or good?

Quinny

Because I I remember really enjoying season 1 like, yeah, I I found it shocking and I liked the, you know, in that time the. Ultra violence and that kind of thing and and Omni man was a a really, you know, interestingly explored character of what a Superman was actually evil as **** and you. That that was. Cool and for some reason I don’t know whether it was cause I tried cause they also released a like an Adam Eve. Stand alone film or something just before season 2.

Jill

Yeah, with a mini series or something like that, wasn’t it?

Quinny

And I think I tried to watch some of that and was like ohh no, I don’t know. And then I just never quite hit my stride on season 2. I was just like, yeah, yeah. And therefore I dropped off by season 3. So I watched the trailer for this. And I was like, I have no ******* clue what’s going on.

Dion

Yeah, look, you know it’s it’s it’s interesting because it’s a lot of moral complexity. I feel like each of these characters is doing their best. Like, you know, people are doing growth like, what’s his name? What’s the character that. I was thinking about in particular Rex. That’s right, Rex. Voice by Jason mantzoukas. Is crazy stuff, you know from every sure.

Quinny

Does he play a wild and crazy character?

Dion

Yes, he kind of does. He’s a bit of * ****, but then, you know, realises that no one really likes him cause he’s a bit of * **** and goes to therapy and starts to work on himself. And it’s like, yeah, like.

Speaker

Wow.

Dion

It’s it’s a really interesting thing.

Jill

A man willingly took himself to therapy.

Dion

Yeah, and works on it and slips.

Quinny

Up clearly not a real. Man and.

Dion

And slips up and does **** **** and then goes.

Jill

No real nose punch walls.

Dion

Yeah, that’s kind of what that that’s what that character was presented with in season 1. That’s the kind of the character he’s.

Speaker

Yeah.

Dion

A complete ****. Yeah, it’s just kind of it’s it’s an interesting thing like, you know, most of the people are doing growth and then you know. Look, you know it’s, it’s, it’s. It’s interesting. I found. I got more out of it even though I wasn’t really paying attention. And I can. Sort of recommend it when it was good. Season 3 was quite good about that. I think Season 2 was a bit of a a misstep, but season 3 is quite good and there’s some kind of shocking moments in season. Three that have got a game changing. Ideas for the world in that world, which is kind of cool, but also the return of a few kind of throw away characters are kind of cool and even Omni man is having. Kind of growth, which is interesting. Yeah. And makes it made me feel understanding for some of the other characters too.

Quinny

Interesting. I.

Speaker 7

It was good.

Quinny

No. OK, I’ll have to give. I’m actually after seeing the trailer. I was like maybe I’ll try and give that a. Bit of a. Look. Yeah, which I mean, that unfortunately does mean I’ve got to try and.

Dion

Watch season 2, so yeah, look, I mean, Cecil Steadman had a really good explanation and arc in this one. Rex has a really good arc. In this one you know it introduced, not Negan, who’s the guy, plays Negan in The Walking. Said.

Jill

Oh yeah.

Dion

Jeffrey Morgan Jeffrey Dean Morgan. That’s right. He’s he’s he’s in there as basically the same kind of thing, but like the Omni man Negan. Who turns up at one point. So you remember in the first, like in the first season, there was that thing where Omni man takes his son and like, pushes his head through like a a train carriage. And it’s really terrifying. They kind of upped that a little bit because there’s this other guy, like, there’s a there’s an Omni like, you know, what do they call them? Not Omni, man. They’re their whole race.

Speaker

Jill

Yeah.

Dion

Viltrumite Vitamix. Yeah, viltrumite. That’s right. He’s a viltrumite, and he’s like, the the enforcer viltrumite when the when the Viltrumite isn’t doing what they’re supposed to do, they call in, like, the wolf, and he shows up and he does. Yeah. Lots of bad stuff, but he doesn’t care, cuz he’s just like, I’m a candidate. But then you have some weird sympathy for the character. I know you have to watch it. It makes sense.

Speaker 1

Dion

I can’t convince you all to, but anyway. Go and do that.

Jill

I believe it.

Dion

Yeah, surprisingly, I got more out of season 3 than I thought.

Speaker 2

Dion

Speaking of Amazon Prime stuff.

Quinny

You ready for a reach room?

Dion

Yeah. Yes. No, I don’t want to reach around for. Well, I would actually have to reach around him because he’s so ******* big. But alright, we’ll go to you. It’s man candy, man. Candy time.

Speaker 6

I’ve never been so jealous of a fork in my life. Do you have any thoughts on dessert?

Speaker

Mystery, Jim, we’re looking into the owner of a rug import business called Bizaar.

Speaker 6

Bizzar, let me guess, DEA. Things need some business with bad. People.

Speaker

You.

Speaker 6

Know I thought I killed him years ago.

Speaker

What did he do to you?

Speaker 6

He didn’t do anything to me.

Speaker

Maybe we can help each other out. I have a plan.

Speaker 6

Undercover informant. Mr. Richard, the record is impressive. Bench press proves nothing elbow on the pad weaker than I fought. Sorry. Hand slipped.

Speaker

Welcome to the team, Rachel. I’m in. Tonight, your chance.

Speaker 9

To prove your verge to keep richer.

Speaker 6

Exactly how much danger is this job putting me? In.

Speaker

About to get out. Of there time.

Speaker 9

How much?

Speaker 6

Do I have I?

Speaker 2

Don’t know.

Speaker

Hurry up against Reacher.

Speaker 6

Long story.

Speaker

How often do? You do this.

Speaker 6

Every so often.

Speaker

I figured out why you do what. You. Do. Because you hate the big, the powerful. You think they?

Speaker 6

Can get away with things.

Speaker

So you make sure they don’t.

Speaker 11

Oh.

Speaker 6

You just figured that out.

Dion

Alright, yes. And she punchy song.

Speaker

This is not.

Dion

Oh, OK. He’s large and in charge. He is large, but he’s not the largest man on the screen in season 3.

Jill

No, they actually found a bigger dude.

Dion

Yep, Yep.

Quinny

I was very impressed by that.

Jill

Yeah, cause I think like Alan Richard in real life is. Like 6-6 or something. Like that. This dude that they found was like 7 four or something stupid.

Dion

It’s been a good decade for really big dudes. Like you know. There were two in Game of Thrones now there’s yeah. And he’s not even.

Jill

One of them.

Quinny

Yes, no, this is some of the gigantic dude.

Dion

He’s another big dude. All it does is it like every time I see a season of the show, I watch this like. Like. Reacher I just get reminded that Tom Cruise is his ego.

Jill

Ah.

Dion

They made him think that he could play Jack Reacher in not one but 2 movies.

Jill

But two movies and the second one was so bad.

Quinny

I never watched either of them, but terrible like well.

Jill

Like and the second one even more so like just shocking. Like definitely daytime straight to television movie level quality like bad, bad.

Quinny

Go ahead. Oh.

Jill

But yeah, I dare you to watch. That movie and then? We’ll go and watch Season 3 of this show.

Quinny

I I don’t want to cause I don’t like the idea of like, you know, Tom Cruise like you look at it and you think there’s nothing about that guy that says. That guy.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

So look at the start of. 2023 I started reading Lee Child Books and I started from the very first reach a book and I started making my way through it mine, doing only like halfway through his catalog of books until I moved in on to very smart. But that’s another story. So I started reading all of the books. And. I had read the like the first season of Reacher is based off the very first book, so that was fun to like, go and watch that show after having read the book and like compare them basically because who doesn’t do that with the source material. But then when I got through the books and I was like oh wait, this was the one that they based that. First Tom Cruise movie off. Alright, well now gonna watch the movie and and then like kept reading and like ohh this was the second Tom Cruise movie. OK, now I need to watch. That one now. And I’m like ah.

Quinny

I didn’t even really I I was unaware of there being a Jack Reacher too, and now I’m like Jack Reacher never go. Back no.

Jill

Yeah. Yeah, it was a very good book.

Dion

You did, that’s.

Jill

With the movie like absolutely ruined it.

Dion

I mean, we’re talking about this Reacher, the guy who’s, you know, Alan Richardson, he’s 6/2.

Jill

But.

Speaker

Yes, yeah, yeah, alright. Yeah.

Dion

He was also Hawke from Hawk and Dove. He was.

Jill

And he was also Aquaman, a very, very, very long time ago.

Quinny

He was also Rafael in the Ninja Turtles.

Dion

Movie. Yeah, someone. And wasn’t he in Friday Night Lights or something? I don’t know. Some high school football.

Jill

There you go.

Dion

Thing anyway, who knows? Like, you know, he’s just a man.

Jill

Possibly.

Dion

Mountain, you know.

Jill

He is and like. That’s that’s reaches job he solves. Problems by being the largest guy in the room.

Dion

Kind of does and and then he chooses one lady to which romance in each season as a going through, as I’ve noticed too, and I’m like.

Jill

And look, I’ll tell you in the books, it’s always fade to black. You never get any of the juicy stuff because it’s written by men and men don’t know how to write sex scenes. So. So my child did not pretend that he could write a sex scene and he just cuts away. And unfortunately, they kind of cut away in.

Dion

Ohh God. Yeah, he didn’t he.

Quinny

Didn’t know. Yeah. Yeah, he wouldn’t know he wouldn’t.

Dion

Yes.

Jill

The show too, but.

Dion

A woman, a woman, comes and kisses Jack Reacher, fade to black. I do not know what happens after that. I do not. But I will describe the him punching someone into 1000 pieces. Yeah, pretty much.

Jill

Yeah, the bloody broken bones. You’re getting gory details? Yep.

Dion

Yep, no penetration.

Quinny

This is why America is the way. That it is, let’s be honest.

Speaker

Ohh yeah.

Speaker 1

Look.

Speaker 7

It’s it’s kind of rinse, repeat.

Dion

For season 3 and I had to admit, I got. Yes.

Speaker

Yes.

Speaker 7

A little bored.

Dion

I know. Alright. Is that is that I know? Is that kind of offensive? You know, Season 1 was interesting because it was the establishment of the character and I kind of got that and season 2 did a really interesting job because it showed him what was he like at. Like before, when he was in the military, he kind of had a team.

Jill

Yeah. And honestly, I think the choices of books that they have adapted were were spot on. I enjoyed they, they stuck with the first book because, you know, it’s the introduction. But I do like that they chose the one to go back to. That is one of only a very handful of. Of the lead child books that actually gives you reaches past. So yeah, it was that was a good choice for season 2.

Speaker 7

Dion

I thought that was interesting because it put him in the team dynamic and made him work through that and that was kind of good and this one I feel like he kind of was but wasn’t. And I got.

Jill

A bit this one was great. We got nearly again. I love her character.

Dion

Don’t.

Jill

And yeah, he’s always kind of. Teamed up with somebody to to solve his little.

Speaker

Sure.

Quinny

See Karina in the chat is asking a a question and one that I actually was gonna ask as well. Is it better than season 2? Because I’ve heard a lot of people say that Season 2 drop.

Jill

Obligation.

Quinny

Dolph, like, was nowhere near as good as the first, and I I can’t comment. I I have not watched much of it at all. I’ve watched a couple of episodes of season 3 because I was like, OK, let’s see where we’re at. Turns out it’s exactly what I thought.

Dion

It was season 2.

Jill

Did kind of drift away from the story telling that. The book did so I did find. The. Not as great. I do agree that season 2 was probably not as polished because yeah, that made some choices. I was like ohh that they didn’t do that bit. Oh, that’s strange. Ohh, it’s not really following the way it was before. So I I don’t know. Maybe it was just the. Screenplay adapter. Took some liberties, who knows.

Quinny

Yeah. I mean, there’s always a thing where you go to TV as well that like. You know the the episodic format means that you have to stretch things out. I mean, I’ve I’ve learned a harsh lesson on preacher, not Reacher, but Preacher. You know, where I watched that and went, Oh my God, I know the comics really ******* well. And this is nothing like them.

Jill

Quinny

Like the the entirety of season 1 of the the Preacher TV series is half the first comic book.

Jill

Oh, OK.

Quinny

Like the 1st 20 page ******* floppy. And I was like, this is ******* ridiculous. What’s going on here? It picked up its pace, but yeah.

Jill

Karina is saying that she didn’t vibe with him as part of a group in Season 2.

Dion

So it did. I thought it was. It was more interesting to see that, but I mean, hey.

Jill

Yeah.

Dion

He’s supposed to be a loner. Yeah, exactly. Who just kind of rolls around and fights crime? These ones, it just seems to be getting more and more about like, oh, it’s a big thing. He’s doing something for, like a big crime and I wanna get back. No, just one of the more Middle America stuff, like walking past someone and going, hey, you’re doing bad punch to. Yes.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

Our minds.

Jill

I’ll recommend the books to you, Dean, because there are a lot of those. Like there’s a great two parter that went over 2 books where he’s like literally stranded in the middle of America during the middle of winter and is like uncovering like this huge military scam and.

Speaker 7

But you said there’s no, there’s no ****, so why would?

Jill

It’s incredible.

Speaker 7

Read it. All right, well.

Jill

I’ll lend you my fairy books.

Speaker

Then I’m bored with it.

Dion

Going to get it and then I’ll be seeing just lots of sex when they gonna punch. Someone.

Speaker 7

Yeah. When they gonna solve a crime?

Jill

Can’t win with.

Quinny

You bro it. It reminded me a lot of of a movie that came out a few years ago walking tall. Did you ever see that the was the rock?

Dion

Yeah, with a piece of 2 by 4 which took a lot of it, took a lot of liberty.

Quinny

Yeah, basically.

Speaker 6

Yes.

Quinny

Yeah, but yeah, that idea of just this person who is just a ******* massive unit walks into a small town and then small town dickery happens and then he smacks the **** out of them with either a 2 by 4 or his gigantic ham shaped fists, you know.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Quinny

Feel like?

Dion

It it is funny that he keeps saying about his massive unit like I do. Watch each like love interest in each season. Just kind of I feel like the actor is sitting there going. I don’t even know how to attempt this.

Jill

Literally climbing him like a tree.

Quinny

Yeah. How do I do this piece by piece? Once at a time.

Dion

It’s good Alan Richardson still doing a bang up job of being Jack Reacher. Like I look at that. I’m like, yeah, he’s Reacher like that makes me work for it.

Speaker

100% yeah.

Quinny

I’ve I really did enjoy the the bits in the first episode where he faced off against Paulie, the seven foot something ******* giant though, because you’re just like. That’s going to be a big thing for the end of the season, isn’t it? It’s going to be reach of versus the giant and.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

It was fun seeing that come to life because, yeah, it was the first time Reacher encountered a dude that was bigger than him, and it’s like, well, you can’t punch your way out of this one like so. You gotta use your brain.

Dion

Yeah, I have to. I had to admit, the way that he finally beats Paulie.

Speaker 1

It was a good fight.

Speaker

Yeah.

Dion

You know, like you know, and no spoilers there. It’s ******* Reacher. There’s gonna be a season 4 Christ sakes. You know, it’s Jack Reacher.

Jill

Yeah, there’s like 30 odd books. So you’ve. Got a lot of content.

Quinny

It’s.

Speaker

Look.

Quinny

Essentially, how long until Alan Richardson said I’m I’m done half the cost of the fact that he’s campaigning so hard to be bad man, yeah.

Dion

And also like you know, half the production budget. Let’s go to keeping Alan Richardson. Looking that ******* size. Is a ******* gigantic. And. Also, I don’t want to see him as Batman. I do not see him as Batman.

Quinny

No me either.

Dion

I thought bat Fleck was pretty close.

Jill

No, he’s too jacked for Batman.

Dion

Yeah, unless you’re doing like, some of the very specific Batman.

Quinny

Yeah, maybe like.

Speaker

Uh.

Jill

Like Dark Knight Batman. Yeah.

Dion

Kind of. He’d be a better bane.

Speaker 1

You.

Quinny

You know who I’m looking at him. I would have thought he would have made a ******* great. Venom. Like a comic accurate.

Dion

Venom. Yeah, true.

Quinny

You know that that just massive *******.

Dion

Not frank. You didn’t. You didn’t. You didn’t think Topher Grace was a good. Enough for him.

Jill

But like it was Eddie ever that jacked, or was it just venom?

Quinny

Alright, Eddie, Eddie.

Jill

Took over.

Quinny

And he’s ******* massive. That’s.

Jill

Quinny

Like he is always this gigantic dude.

Speaker

Dion

Yeah. That’s why Venom was there.

Jill

Right. OK.

Dion

Right. OK. Yeah. Yeah, alright look you. Know. Richard’s having a great time they could. Now we just last up sinners. We went and saw sinners last night thanks to water, brother. Sure. Amazing. It was great. And I would like to go and just play the trailer. The only trailer that you should watch before going just sinners.

Jill

Yes, don’t look at for any other trailers. Just.

Dion

Do not look for.

Jill

Watch this one.

Dion

Any other trailers? Just watch this trailer only and we’ll do it.

Speaker 7

Alright.

Speaker

I’ve been all over this world. I’ve seen me and die ways I ain’t even know what’s possible.

Speaker 8

Love you, brother.

Speaker 6

Be careful.

Speaker 8

I will.

Speaker 9

With all the things that I’ve. Seen.

Speaker 6

I ain’t never seen no demons.

Speaker

No ghost.

Speaker 9

No magic.

Speaker 6

Till now. They get back inside.

Speaker 1

Let me in mate.

Speaker

Some weight sit going on out.

Speaker 8

You keep dancing with the devil. One day he’s going to follow you.

Speaker 6

Home.

Dion

Ohh, Are you ready to sin? No. So much so much. Yeah, very specifically. Only watch that trailer and then go and see the sinners film. Do not watch any other trailer.

Jill

I already did last night. Yeah, because there was another trailer and it kind of gives away the clincher of the movie. Like, yeah, it was a bit annoying.

Dion

Yeah, well, not really.

Speaker 1

The.

Dion

Not really. The clincher, like I watched that trailer, which I think everyone who kind of went and went ohh interesting. What’s it? What is it about? It seems to be something. There’s got to be something going on. There and I like that vague idea of it, and this seems stylistic. It’s great. It’s an interesting story. It’s saying something. I want to see it. And then, yeah, the other trailer is like, here’s the plot. And you’re like, oh.

Jill

Yeah.

Quinny

I’m not sure which one I’ve seen, I’ve I’ve definitely seen the one that we’ve just watched and I think I may have looked at the the other one. Yeah, cause I said a word to you. And you’re like, oh, oh, so you’ve seen that trailer. And I was like, ohh OK.

Dion

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker

Yeah.

Dion

Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Quinny

Yeah. Look where that that was a.

Speaker

What?

Quinny

Problem but yeah.

Dion

Without too many spoilers, because I don’t really want to spoil it it too much because I feel like the vibe of it is.

Jill

No, no, no, no.

Dion

Excellent. Yes, yes. It’s just. It was better.

Jill

Do you want too? Much.

Dion

It was better when I didn’t know certain things, but that’s also to say that this thing is a really great. Film like as it stands alone, I feel like it. It’s it’s it’s a it’s a really good cake that someone has over decorated a little bit with a bit too many ideas in certain strange places, which just kind of like.

Jill

Yes.

Dion

Don’t need that. Didn’t need that.

Jill

Yeah, I think we got about. Halfway to the movie. And then they did something, and I looked at you and I was. Like, yeah, did they?

Dion

Need to do that? They didn’t need to.

Jill

Do that and then it kept going. I was like I went alright, we’ll just move. Past that, we’ll. Keep going. I’m like, oh, this is really good. Yep. Great and. Then we got like 2 endings.

Dion

Yeah. Ohh it definitely had a return to the king. Problem.

Quinny

Oh no.

Dion

But that’s OK.

Jill

So it kind of ends up the credits. And I’m like, yeah, that was great. Love that. And then after the like first little part of credits we get like another two or three minutes of story and I’m like didn’t need.

Dion

Yep. That. Half the audience had walked out. And then yeah. Yeah. And we’re like, ohh. And. And then people like. Ohh. And then it’s like oh, it’s keeping going. Ohh. OK, right.

Speaker

Wow. Yeah. Look.

Dion

Look, Jill, you had a good time, didn’t you?

Jill

But but it was still a really fun, good, enjoyable.

Dion

Movie. It’s a Ripper. It’s a Ripper of a thing.

Speaker

Yeah.

Speaker 7

Dion

I don’t know what it’s trying to do. Like I think I think someone knew what it was trying to do. I think Ryan Cougar and Michael Jordan knew what they were doing. Like they they knew what they were doing and I’ve got to say hands down.

Jill

Ohh performances work fantastic as well, by the way.

Dion

Yeah. Yeah, like Michael B Jordan’s playing twin brother or not twin brothers. But like, just playing brothers in this. Was.

Jill

Well, yeah, they were twins.

Dion

I don’t know if they’re. Twins, but sure they were twins. They were.

Jill

******* called Alice and Elijah. Like nobody names like they’re. Two sons from different.

Speaker

But.

Jill

You know, they’re not cousins.

Dion

They were distinct. They were just, they were distinct enough characters that I I I fully got immersed in that entire thing. And I actually will tip my hat to them for having to do every scene twice with each of these characters in the scenes.

Speaker 6

They were.

Jill

Joking. It was. They’re ******* twins. Yeah. And like they were. Yeah. They had distinct personalities as well. So, like, hats off to him. Yeah.

Dion

Yeah. Yeah. And they had a lot of cross overseen. They had a lot of crossover, especially big scenes too, like in multiple people moving past and doing that sort of stuff. So I gotta say well.

Speaker

Quinny

Can can can I? I beg of you, can one of you. Give me a synopsis.

Jill

Yes.

Quinny

That cause cause the trailer that first trailer gave me a feel of vibe, and I was kind of like, OK, I think I know where we’re at, but what I would need is is some.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

Kind of a plot synopsis.

Jill

It’s Jim Crow era. Mississippi. These two brothers come back from Chicago and they want to set up a Duke joint.

Speaker

Do you do?

Jill

And they they get their friends and they start their little thing and then they got a cousin that plays music and. The premise of the opening of the film is like some people are so blessed with a musical talent that it can Pierce The Veil and attract evil, and so maybe some evil **** that goes. Yeah.

Quinny

I there was a request for. You to do it in a **** accent.

Jill

Well, I ain’t going to give you no southern Mississippi accent. Probably.

Dion

There you go. Yeah, it’s, it’s, it’s a really good it has, it has. A really strong vibe of like that American Gothic.

Jill

It’s got like a little like voodoo **** happening as well. Like it was really good. If if anybody has read American vampire by Scott Snyder, the graphic novel.

Dion

Reminders.

Quinny

I thought there was a. Bit of voodoo going on in there.

Jill

Similar vibes.

Dion

It’s it’s really strange because it was so strong.

Jill

Looks like that kind. Sort of. Voodoo, spooky kind of 1930s Americana.

Dion

It’s so strong in the in like you, you also I think, said Jill, about it was like when it like it had you in the pocket and. Then why did it keep and then? It did like 1 little crazy. You out. Why does it? Why did it? Yeah.

Jill

Yeah. And you described it as a record scratch. And I was.

Dion

Like, yeah, yeah. It’s a little bit of what you know that was a jar and there was a yeah, there’s a distinct bit of jarring, but I feel like that big jar, which I don’t want to give away. I think that was definitely a stylistic choice that was unnecessary, but there were more choices, I think. Added on that I felt was it felt like interference because it didn’t trust the audience and that’s.

Jill

There were a couple of moments where they kind of did pull back things that made you feel like you were dumb because you couldn’t remember.

Dion

One of the things.

Jill

It. But I remembered the.

Speaker

Jill

Very clearly, what they had told us before. So like you really didn’t have to show us that again to remind us because you’re treating us like we’re stupid.

Dion

You know. Yeah, there’s there’s. The voice over at the start, which is an exposition narrative which is then reinforced by them saying the same thing again in that scene, and then also showing us like it’s kind of like, yeah, we understood that the first time around. Are you telling us that we’re dumb? Which is such a shame, because. Some of the ideas were great. Like, you know, it’s a it’s a Horror Story. Which has some tropes that you understand, but like they played with those tropes in an interesting way. So that’s good. Like, yeah, you always want a Horror Story that, that, that takes some stereotypes and moves them in different ways. But then it also did some dumb. Didn’t it, Jill? It did some dumb food at the end there where it just forgot how many people were in a. Yeah.

Jill

Yeah.

Dion

Room. Like that was a. There’s a big climactic kind of battle.

Jill

There was very definitely like a. That’s a mistake, yeah.

Dion

Yeah, like, yeah, it’s kind of like there are definitely only six people left. And then when they do the big battle, how come all of these random people are getting killed and?

Jill

Anyway.

Dion

You’re like, who would? They. Yeah. Where did they come from?

Jill

But actually says they just want it to be creepier and scarier than Nope. And I’ll tell you, yes, there’s. No path like a weird foreboding about it because it was ambiguous. This is very much it’s telling you what it’s doing and it’s super gory. So if you like that kind of horror, then you’ll be satisfied with sinners. There were a few moments where the jump scares were decent, so OK.

Dion

Yeah, yeah, that’s a good job.

Quinny

Would would Peter have been deeply uncomfortable?

Jill

100% yeah, up to about.

Dion

Deeply, yeah. Yeah. Would not have would.

Jill

Halfway in the film and then. She’d be out of there.

Dion

Yeah, two of the things that I I will praise like to the end of the day, great story, black voices about black people doing interesting things and and telling that story and also the soundtrack is ******* amazing.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

100%. Oh my God. The music is great. What’s his name? Goranson. That does the score and stuff for Star Wars these days was on this film. So yeah, it was good ****.

Dion

Yeah, it’s really good.

Quinny

Nice.

Dion

Yeah, and also not as not the music you expect. It did a lot of different music, well, not different music, but music you weren’t expecting and it does it all very well because it’s really kind of Blues. It’s it’s talking about the Blues it it gets a little bit too up its own us about talking about music and culture which is where the record scratch moment comes in. But in terms of the, you know, characters the acting, the story, the narrative, it’s all really engaging. Everyone’s doing a really great job with it. So yeah, it is kind of like, ohh, swing. You know, when it swings at it here it’s it’s out of the park. But when it misses, it’s such a bad miss that everyone’s like, oh ****. Which is so strange.

Quinny

Yeah, that’s that’s a that’s an uncomfortable balance, isn’t it, where you.

Dion

Yeah.

Quinny

Like ohh, this is really ******* great and then it’ll take a massive swing and you’re.

Dion

Left feeling like the missteps.

Jill

Are are pretty minor compared to how good the rest of it is.

Dion

Oh yeah.

Jill

Though like OK. Cool. It’s there. It’s easy to overlook those things, and they may not be as affectations as they were to us like. Other people might not think nothing of it, like they’ll just be like, Oh yeah, cool, that’s part. Of the story so.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

OK, you saw it in IMAX is.

Jill

That right? Yes, it was filmed for IMAX as well, but strange there were, like a few scenes where it was, like, very obviously an IMAX scene. And then there were others where it was like that just looks like regular letterbox film. So. Yeah, there was. There was a bit of mix of formatting was interesting.

Speaker

Dion

Yeah. Yeah, it was it. It was strange. Some of it, yeah, was. Crisp and beautiful and wonderful, and then other bits were like ohh this is not right. But you know, interesting good narrative, quite tight. Really enjoyed it. Was down for it and then got pulled out of it and like going, why did you make that choice? That wasn’t quite good. But, you know, in in this current, what is it? Film World of Strange releases that’s coming out at the moment. It’s a lot better than a lot of other stuff you thinking about. Thing so I can recommend it like it’s it’s more of a a horror scare kind of movie that is that way it’s not going to be a boring blockbuster, but yeah.

Quinny

Is it gonna have that, that sort of blockbuster pull though, because like, they’re they’re saying it needs to make 185 million to kind of? Make it wash its face, so to speak. Do you reckon it’ll have broad appeal?

Jill

I think there’ll be enough fans of Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan from, like, Creed and Black Panther and stuff that there would be interest to go and see this movie. And I think the trailer is quite intriguing. I think it would get bums in seats, but I I wouldn’t say it’s like huge.

Dion

Yeah.

Speaker

It’s the.

Jill

Because again like. A. A black story is still pretty niche to a lot of people.

Quinny

Yeah, and often. Will probably play well in the US, may not necessarily have that that appeal out US.

Dion

It feel it feels like I feel like there’s a bit of studio squeaky bum time with it where it, like, based on that trailer, people were a bit confused about the thing that we’re going to see. So they kind of pushed out another trailer that explained no, it’s actually about this and it’s like, I don’t know if that’s helping you cause there, man, this is more of an underground like this doesn’t need to be a blockbuster. This is a solid *******.

Speaker 11

Yeah.

Dion

Film. Which would have A twist which would people be going, Oh my God, you’ve got to go see it. Like opening weekend wouldn’t be great, but it would do well over a few weeks as people go. Hey, you could. Just go see sinners. It’s it’s great. Yeah. Compared to what’s out there at the moment.

Jill

Yeah, compared to working man special.

Quinny

That’s it, I’m pretty sure.

Dion

Yeah, working man. But, but you know, funnily enough, what’s ******* smashing at the box office? Minecraft? Who picked that?

Speaker

yeah

Dion

Who picked that ****?

Quinny

I’m guarantee you at the moment the whole entire American film industry is currently having. Squeaky bum time as as China is currently going, we don’t want your ******* films.

Dion

Yeah, the only issue.

Quinny

You know all of those tariffs also apply to your entertainment material. Yeah. And suddenly, budgets and income from films drops by a few $100 million per film.

Speaker

I don’t know.

Dion

Estimated estimated revenue has suddenly changed.

Quinny

As it’s going open. MHM.

Dion

Yeah.

Quinny

Good time.

Speaker 7

Yeah. Anyway, thanks everyone. We’re.

Quinny

I’m I’m. I’m gonna see if I can go.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Quinny

See it cause it does sound.

Dion

Yeah. Yeah. Ohh yeah, I highly recommend like.

Jill

Yeah, it was. It was cool. Very cool.

Dion

Get out there in the cinema and watch it. And you know that’s that’s a fun one. You know, there’s not much else out there at the moment to to do so. Sinus is it good times?

Quinny

So we are coming up on some fun stuff which I’m I’m excited for. Like I’m I’m legitimately excited for Thunderbolt like.

Jill

Yeah, I think that’ll be good.

Quinny

I’m I’m very keen for that and everything I see for it makes. Me. Go. I’m on board with it. I. Want it to be great?

Dion

Sorry.

Jill

I mean it can’t be any worse than Captain America 4.

Quinny

I mean it could but.

Dion

It could.

Quinny

That would be a good time for anybody. Is.

Dion

Isn’t the until Dawn Scary movie coming out by Sony next week?

Quinny

Well, as in the the game until dawn.

Dion

Yeah, I’ve heard absolutely nothing about it. It’s supposed to be coming. Out next.

Quinny

Week. Yeah, I mean, there are an awful lot of 2025 film you well. Wow.

Dion

Yeah, April 25. I heard nothing about that one.

Quinny

Nope, don’t even know who’s distributing here in Australia.

Dion

Signing it’s a Sony one. Yeah. Yeah, but I heard nothing about that. But I can say that sin is is a definite lock for a scary film. Until dawn may not be so.

Quinny

There you go. Oh, sorry. Right, right. I mean, I never played the games from of until dawn, so.

Dion

Neither have I. I’m just.

Quinny

However, it does have Peter Strommer in there, so.

Dion

I I’m just passing time until and or let’s be honest.

Quinny

I have been passing time in a in a very joyous way, however, because this weekend saw the resumption of Doctor Who and the Last of Us season 2.

Speaker

Yes.

Jill

One got so much TV.

Speaker

It’s true.

Dion

Fun fact, I have never played the Last of Us Part 2 as a computer game.

Quinny

Oh. Food.

Dion

And I have all and I already have people telling me about things and I’m like, can you shut the **** **? Because I’ve not played it, so I don’t know. I’m watching season 2, like, what’s gonna happen.

Jill

Yeah.

Quinny

Yep. I will not say a single ******* thing about it at all, because it is. It’s a whole ******* thing. And also, as we found from season 1, things that you think ohh OK, that’s that’s totally gonna be a a thing, you know, from the games. May be completely ******* changed. Yeah, like episode 3 with Frank and and.

Dion

Yeah. No, they can’t. Can’t. Just don’t go back.

Quinny

Sorry that is.

Dion

Can’t talk about it too early, too.

Quinny

Soon. But that is that is not in the game in the slightest. No. And that was one of the most. Beautiful episodes of ******* TV. Yeah, ever.

Dion

So also don’t forget everyone to do. You’re watching over Easter because when we come back after Easter, which will be another Wednesday. Because there’s another screening on Tuesday, so I had to change. Today is gonna be dead and all yellow jackets and and or and maybe something else we don’t know yet.

Quinny

Ohh yeah, Daredevil finale tonight, yeah.

Jill

And watched it already.

Quinny

Ohh have oh ****.

Jill

Yeah, watched it before we started this.

Dion

I I had. I didn’t even realize it was the final and I. Was like, oh ****.

Speaker 1

Ohh no.

Dion

Can’t wait for the next episode? Jokes on me.

Quinny

At least they’ve actually. I’m pretty sure they’ve mostly. Filmed season 2 so.

Dion

Like this. This is the turn you took, right?

Jill

Great. Ohh 2. Ohh **** Oh my God. I forgot where we were.

Speaker 11

Oh no.

Jill

Oh my God, anyway. I have some I have some.

Quinny

Got some hot? Opinions. Yeah. What takes?

Jill

I’m out of words, but cabs exhausted.

Dion

I better I better get around and start watching. I better get around and start watching Daredevil.

Quinny

You should probably do that, yeah, and and and.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Jill

I gotta finish yellow jackets this week. Too.

Dion

Yes.

Quinny

Yeah, finished that one. That was, that was an intriguing 1.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

All right, lots to catch up on this. As always, there’s lots of ******* TV happening out there. Yeah. Good luck keeping up. I was talking to somebody the other day about. Ohh. New Black Mirror has also started and finished. It’s, you know, it’s binged on Netflix. So you can watch all of the black mirrors and holy **** is it bleak.

Dion

That’s just the news cycle. Stop just watching the news. Grinning.

Quinny

Yeah, like. I started I I I watched the first one and I was like. Like it’s it’s really good, but at the same time there’s a there’s a certain level of of having your reality reflected back at you.

Dion

That so much?

Quinny

He’s like, ohh Jesus Christ. Christ the the 1st. I’ll just so so you’ve got a rough idea. The first Black Mirror. I’ve only watched the 1 is about somebody who has a brain injury. And so they go through a new procedure where that part of their brain is. Removed and backed up to the cloud. And then that part of the brain is replaced with computer bit so that you are those memories that part of you is constantly being accessed from the cloud. Now that sounds like you know a bit creepy and a bit horrific, but all you need to know about it is pop up ads. That’s it. Ohh. It’s dark. It’s so ******* dark.

Dion

Speaking of weird thing I’ve just noticed right now we’re all wearing a plain T. Good. Tonight. But Jill’s wearing white green. He’s wearing black and I’m wearing grey. It’s like a weird.

Speaker 1

That’s funny, we didn’t even time.

Speaker

Yeah.

Speaker 7

This I just thought, yeah.

Quinny

No, no.

Dion

I am the opinion in between both of yours. Jill’s the right opinion, Quinn. He’s the wrong opinion and I’m the middling opinion. Just trying to keep the Flat Earth has and the round Earth has together.

Jill

Wow. Yeah. Look, there is so much exciting stuff happening this weekend. Besides Easter, Star Wars Celebration is on in Japan this weekend, and ******* WrestleMania forgot that. Get ready for four days of wrestling. We have smashed down.

Dion

Yes.

Speaker 11

Says.

Dion

We have WrestleMania day one, WrestleMania Day 2 and then we got raw. *******.

Jill

Bring it on.

Speaker 7

I just love that it’s like it’s.

Dion

Like, it’s like Jill. How was your Easter? It’s like I ******* knocked. The guy. Out with a chair. Yes, I gave him a German suplex and then a tornado. Did he tea? It was amazing.

Quinny

Are they sex moves?

Jill

I received a care package today from my my besties in Adelaide. I now am the proud owner of the Undisputed Championship.

Dion

Belt and I have a.

Jill

Cody rose T-shirt. So I’m going to be.

Dion

Decked out on the couch. Nice.

Jill

Watching WrestleMania this weekend.

Dion

WrestleMania.

Quinny

I’m. So impressed, I I thank you for the reminder. I may actually turn that on because it’s on. Netflix. Yes, sure, it’s. Been solidly 20 years since I’ve watched any wrestling.

Dion

It’s like now is a great time to eat chocolate eggs and hot cross buns and watch wrestle mania because.

Jill

Yes, and sit on your **** for four hours for two days straight.

Dion

Yep, exactly.

Jill

Guys, if you’re in wrestling, send me your predictions. Who do you think’s gonna win? Who do you want to see win? What kind of chaos do you want to see come out of?

Quinny

The winds. I wanna see mankind come back. Like in in the middle of a a massive cage match.

Dion

My prediction?

Quinny

Like from underneath the the the the ring I want to see mankind crawl back up with Mr. Socko and star. But just ******* suplexing everybody, every all over the ring. I know that that’s never gonna happen.

Speaker

Quinny

I’d also like to see Goldberg come back, but I’m pretty sure he’s now 80s.

Dion

Mine’s pretty easy. My prediction is undertaker. He’ll be back again. The Undertaker alternative. The thing was, he was back last year. I don’t know if you’ll be back again.

Speaker 7

Yeah. See, see.

Quinny

And it, I mean, he is also one of the ones who is very, very proudly Margaret.

Dion

Ohh.

Quinny

So.

Dion

Jill

So was Hogan and he got. Those shift boot out of him earlier this.

Dion

OK, then I’m going to go for my second choice. It’s the iron Sheik. He will come back. And take out. Hey. Well, OK.

Jill

Do we think Cena is gonna win the belt?

Quinny

Ohh, because he went full. He went full healed.

Jill

Do you think he’s got he sold his soul to the? Rock. Will he get his 17th championship win?

Quinny

Actually, if that’s the case, I would like to see John Cena. You know who has sold his soul to the rock, then be attacked by Jack Black, who’s also sold his soul, and then they could both redeem themselves, get their souls back. Jack Black calls coal gas onto the stage. They all do. Massive ******* clothesline suplex on the rock and.

Speaker 7

So.

Quinny

I don’t think. That’s gonna happen. That’s a.

Jill

101 odds for quinny.

Quinny

Yeah, it’s gonna say I’m. I’m not. Seeing it happening.

Dion

Don’t put money on that one, guys, yeah. WrestleMania all right.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Dion

OK, everyone, thanks for joining us tonight. There’s been a lot of a lot of TV and film to to wrap up. And do this. Around I need the. Whip crack where is it? Yeah, yeah. There we go. Maybe maybe I’ll just. No. All in post.

Speaker 7

Winning now have a great Easter and break or holiday. A.

Quinny

Could you be anymore annoyed?

Dion

We’ll see you all again at the end of the month on the 30th.

Jill

Yes. Don’t come back next week.

Dion

Of April. No, we’re not. But we’re not going to be.

Quinny

No, we weren’t.

Jill

Here be running off our Easter eggs.

Quinny

We might play some. Eggs or something? I don’t even. Know how to do?

Dion

That you have to wrestle off our Easter. In WrestleMania. I’ll be doing. A summer show next week, Chuck embarrassed. Yeah, not on this.

Quinny

Place actually. Well, you could just do a drum cinema. Except it’s just Jill on a couch getting drunk watching WrestleMania.

Dion

On our own phone just a TikTok.

Speaker 10

Right.

Speaker 1

Nice. Yeah. Good times. Alright, everybody. We’ll see you next time. Have a happy holidays. Bye.

Dion

Till your break be safe bye.

Speaker 1

Happy Easter everybody.
