A delivery driver vanishes on a December night in 2017 on Pender Road, a dead-end lane outside of Frostbite, Vermont. His truck is found empty, engine running, heat on high, a single boot print leading into the trees. The print is too long, too narrow, and the snow around it is not disturbed by walking — it looks like the foot simply appeared, one after another, as if the thing that made them never lifted its weight. Luna follows the trail, and the trail leads to a house that shouldn't be there, with a porch light that turns on as she approaches. The story is about the silence inside, the frost on the inside of the windows, and the note pinned to the door that reads her own address, written in a hand she almost recognizes — her own, from a letter she wrote when she was nine years old.
