Today, we're tackling a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the town of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Just last week, on January 4, 2026, a man was shot and killed, and several others were injured in a string of shootings that have left residents grappling with fear and confusion.
The victim was Joseph Holt III, a 65-year-old man who was found dead in his vehicle at Watkins Park Plaza at around 7:20 a.m. that day. The police responded quickly, but it was too late; Joseph had succumbed to serious gunshot wounds. As the day progressed, the violence didn't stop there. Later that evening, around 8:10 p.m., more shootings erupted on Darlenen Street and Cambleton Drive, injuring two more individuals. It's a gut-wrenching reminder of the violence that can erupt in our communities when we least expect it.
Damonte Marcel Williams, a 26-year-old resident of Upper Marlboro, has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with these attacks.
