•Exodus 1:6-14•Exodus 2:1-6•Exodus 3:1-10•Exodus 12:31-32•Betrayal: Deadens our senses, Drains our vitality, Kindles our doubts•What is self-betrayal? It is an act contrary to what I feel I should do for another•When I betray myself, I begin to see the world in a way that justifies my self betrayal. I see the world in a self-justifying way, my view of reality becomes distorted.•And when you become self-deceived you: 1. Inflate others’ faults 2. Inflate your own virtue 3. Inflate the value of things that justify your self-betrayal 4. Blame•Over time, my self-deception becomes characteristic of me, and I carry them with me wherever I go and in whatever relationship enter.•Become aware of your enslavement: Identify an area or aspect of your life that is a source of stress, a pattern of thought that leads you into negativity or despair, a particular way of relating that you know isn’t productive. You might identify a habitual response that is rooted in insecurity or fear, an addiction, or a place of resignation or bitterness within you. Just write with the feeling of that enslavement – with that self-betrayal. Don’t fight it or deny it. Just let it sink in and feel its weight.•Finding the cry within us: Look underneath that weight and find a sound, a word or a phrase that is buried beneath your despair, resignation, bitterness or fear.•Being Heard: Open your mouth and let that sound, word or phrase out. Repeat it again and again, exploring and varying pitch, volume and tone. Let your cry tell the Truth that has until now been silenced. This may take some time. •Seen: Imagine yourself as a very young child. Surround your vision with your most tender compassion. Imagine yourself having compassion on someone you are having difficulty with. Imagine yourself free. •Pray: Lord, I cry out to you – lead me to freedom. Call my name for I am listening. Have compassion on me and help me to have compassion on others. Awaken me to your presence in myself and other. Amen.
