For eight episodes Transforming Healthcare has explored each of the parts that make up Clinical Excellence Queensland or CEQ. From improving access and flow and partnering with Hospital and Health Services to provide safe, high quality care to empowering clinical leaders and providing leadership to our workforce, we provide a very diverse range of services.

It is only fitting that we close out Season 1 hearing from our new Deputy Director-General Dr Helen Brown to find out not only where she sees us going, but who we are when we come together.

From shining a light on two of our smaller teams in the last episodes, this time we’re turning attention to one of our largest—Patient Safety and Quality!

As we learnt from Executive Director Kirstine Sketcher-Baker, when you’re supporting such a critical body of work, every single member of the team is needed - sometimes, at a moment’s notice - as they work with our Hospital and Health Services to provide safe care.

While there is a saying about having too many chiefs, at CEQ we value each and every one of ours and are grateful for the leadership they provide across the state. Today we’re taking a bite out of all things dental for our final ‘chief chat’ with Queensland’s Chief Dental Officer Dr Mark Brown.

Mark and the team have down some pioneering work, developing an electronic oral health record in-house which has not only freed up space in public dental clinics around the state, but supports continuity of care for our most disadvantaged consumers.

In addition to supporting healthcare improvements and fostering leaders, Clinical Excellence Queensland provides professional leadership for the healthcare workforces. The Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch (MHAODB) have broad ranging responsibilities, from supporting improvement initiatives in mental health to administering the Mental Health Act 2016.

But what does that really mean? We spoke to the Executive Director of MHAODB Associate Professor John Allan to get to the heart of what they do and most importantly, the why.

Our clinicians spend years honing their professional skills but what happens when they’re ready to make the jump to a leadership position? That is where the Centre for Leadership Excellence comes in to help. Providing statewide leadership training programs and consultancy services to all Queensland Hospital and Health Services, the team are transforming our people and ensuring they are ready for the journey ahead.

In this episode, we talk to Jan Phillips the Executive Director of the Centre for Leadership Excellence to discuss what her team does and the key to a strong organisation.

Clinical Excellence Queensland is a rich tapestry of disciplines, working together to achieve our shared goal. One such pocket, the Healthcare Improvement Unit, has led system-wide change and improvement agendas for a number of years and delivered supported several high-profile programs such as Surgery Connect, ACRE, Hospital in the Home and PROV-ED.
