Last time Jason spoke, he encouraged us to read the Bible as the entire story that it is, rather than seek to piecemeal it into assorted parts. In this sermon, Jason walks us through one view of the Bible’s opening pages. He seeks to bring Genesis chapters 1 and 2 to us as the edgy, spellbinding oration it would have seemed to its ancient audience. In our modern times, we believers often fall into viewing Genesis 1 and 2 as a fairly bland scientific account of the world’s origins. However, in the ancient world, these two chapters would have been scandalous and shaken society to its core - not in their recording creation, but in their tearing down of the world’s gods and exultation of humanity.
