Imagine someone walking up to you and saying, “Hey I’ve got good new and bad news.” When the conversation starts like that, you know you’re in for a tough chat. Advent is like that. Good news and bad news. And we know that when we look at the life of Joseph.

Today we come to third week of Advent, and we’ve been looking at the promises of Christmas, aiming to answer the question of what does Christmas offer us by looking at the traditional themes of Advent: Hope, Love, Joy, Peace. Today we’re focusing in on joy and God’s predilection to lift up the lowly. And what we find is that lifting up the lowly is one of the keys to finding joy in our lives.

Love means different things at different times and in differing contexts. During Advent, we focus in on the idea that love is the ultimate motivation behind Christmas. Love is also the mission that we’re called to because of Christmas.
