Okay, so it’s belated. But it’s not too late to celebrate.

Over the weekend, friends invited me to an “Equal Light Day” party.

In case you, like me, didn’t know – Equal Light Day is one of two days in the year when day and night are both 12 hours. You probably know it as the Equinox (which, I now know, means “equal night”).

Seeing a trailer of the movie “Mr. Turner” flashed me back to one of the most powerful gallery experiences I’ve had.

I knew right away which painting it was. It lit up a wall of the National Gallery in London.

I’d heard about the painting from a man who, as a not-enjoying-school Grade Nine student, had an art teacher, Mr. Bjorgum, who opened his eyes to visual arts.

I recently had a powerful listening experience of listening.

At a two-day workshop, after an activity where we had done some silent personal reflecting, we were invited to find a partner and go for a 30-minute walk outside. Walking outside was important for two reasons. First, it would give us some fresh air and exercise. But secondly, we would be walking beside each other, looking ahead and not looking at each other.

The instructions were simple.

Recently I flew into Palm Springs California for a week with dear friends. One of the amazing sights from the air is the “patchwork quilt” appearance of the flat-bottomed valley that is surrounded by mountains. On one side of a road will be a rectangular or square patch of lush green – golf course fairways, palm trees, fountains… looks like paradise. And then across the road, a rectangular or square patch of brown desert – sand, scrubby sage, some cactus… looks like barren desert, which it is.

Based on the numbers, you, me and our families and friends are better off than people have ever been. For example…

In the Middle Ages, 15 per cent of people died violently and most people did not live to middle age. Now, less than one per cent die violently and in North America the average life expectancy is about 80.

So there I was on January 4, minding my own business, sitting in a favourite meditation place, and two words came into my mind: “Energize 2015.”

I saw the year 2015 being flooded with light. I was speaking with many people. Together we were immersed in positive energy – discovering it within ourselves, radiating it, amplifying it.

Many years ago I discovered I have a gift for guiding powerful visualizations. Since then, I’ve also discovered I have other wisdom and abilities that can be of service to others.

I’m telling you this for two reasons:

At this season which is sacred in many traditions, we sometimes yearn for peace.

On this day, just past the winter solstice, we can celebrate the return of the light.

These two conditions remind me of one of my favorite visualizations – building bridges of light.
