Have any of you film folks noticed that John Carpenter’s The Thing has been elevated out of obscurity over the last few years? It’s always been a favorite film of ours at Transmissions From The Forbidden Planet, and we’re pretty stoked that it’s finally getting the respect it always deserved. So please join us on this episode as we talk about all things The Thing. Like the original novella Who Goes There?, the various film versions, and some of our personal theories and experiences on the storyline. Then when you’re done, maybe one of you can tell me if Derrick seems different to you. You see, half way thru recording this episode he took a potty break and when he came back he seemed…. different somehow. Hmmmm.

On the opener of season 2 of Transmissions from the Forbidden Planet, our pals Derrick and Tim have a blast discussing the intrigue and the magnetism of the anti-hero in films and TV. And how one man… The Man with No Name… was so dang influential and cool, he set the bar for the anti-hero archetype from there on out. So go ahead, make our day and enjoy the show. 

Spooky season continues this October. Speaking of spooky, have you ever pondered those movie moments that really got you good? In this episode Derrick and Tim recount movie moments that either creeped them to the core, made them jump, or grossed them out. Like Jack Torrence from The Shining suggested, you should “Go check it out!!”
