An in-depth conversation with Damon V. Avinger. Damon is a Licensed Social Worker based out of New York with 12 years of experience as a therapist working with children and families. He started off as a verbal play therapist and transitioned to psychotherapy. Damon currently works for the City of New York as a Counselor providing workers and their families with clinical help and referrals to other services. He also works for Heartshare St. Vincent in their Article 31 Mental Health Clinic as a therapist, as well as with the Youth Justice Network as a transformative mentor working with young adults with a criminal justice history. Damon also has developed the Socio-Emotional Coaching movement to assist individuals who look for coaching help with managing their emotional development and intelligence.
Lola discusses with Damon the stages of bouncing back from friendship trauma. It’s never easy when friendships end. You might have been the one to decide to end it, or maybe the former friend decided to end it. The friendship might have been toxic or codependent, or it may have been totally fine and wholesome. It might have ended out of the blue, or the friends might have just gradually drifted apart. We identified unhealthy signs in friendships and Damon gave us tangible things to do once the friendship ends.
