An in-depth conversation with Dr. Alisha Rorer. Dr. Alisha is from Alabama and currently resides in Atlanta, GA. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University, Masters degree in Family Studies from University of Kentucky, and PhD from St. Louis University in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the states of Georgia and Missouri with over a decade of clinical experience. She has worked with clients in mental health centers, in-patient mental hospital, correctional facility, outpatient medical clinic, residential facility, and home-based. She is the owner/therapist at Rorer Psychotherapy and Consulting Services, in Marietta, GA. She offers individual, couple, family, and group therapy. Dr. Rorer works mostly with couples who struggle with communication, trust, and challenges with intimacy, families with conflict issues, and individuals struggling with life transition, anxiety, depression, and who have experienced childhood trauma. Consultation services include interactive workshops, seminars, research projects, and speaking engagements on topics related to mental health awareness, fatherhood, relationships, communication, and intimacy.

An in-depth conversation with Donald Morton. Donald Morton is an award-winning social entrepreneur known for his innovative social solutions. His latest solution is expressed as the CEO of The ReManned Project™️, Inc., where he helps Black Men break the vicious cycle of missed potential, so they transform every area of their lives. The ReManned Project™️ is deeply personal. While he’s glad that thousands of Men are on this journey with him, it was started because he needed liberation. He was fighting to put my life back together after divorce, infidelity, business challenges, bankruptcy and a life destroyed by being the worse liar ever.  He admitted this very thing.

Donald and I discussed the challenges of how to pick up the pieces after experiencing divorce. We both gave our own accounts of what we experienced post-divorce. He explained the difference between being "Single" and being "Unmarried". He stated that he was unmarried which by definition isn't tied to wholeness and healing. He explained how not being whole bled over into the new relationships that he was in and ultimately ended up ending. We concluded that it was important to really work on yourself before getting involved with anyone else before dating again.

An in-depth conversation with Raheem Crawford. Raheem is an artist, a husband, a father of three and a polyamorous lifestyle advocate.

Raheem and I got into the taboo conversation about alternative dating. Polyamorous relationships are on the rise in today's dating scene. Raheem gave great insight into how he and his wife designed their lives to have a strong foundation with each other by executing certain goals within their marriage but also being realistic in how they know that they will not check every, single box on their needs lists.  After a few years of marriage going the traditional route, they decided to open up their relationship to have outside relationships that included platonic as well as intimate partners. He says that their marriage is much stronger because of that decision. There are no topics off-limits inside of this dynamic and because of the openness, it lessens the controversies that most traditional marriages struggle with.

An in-depth conversation with Racine McGee. Racine is an author, speaker, investor, trader, and host of the Just 'Cine Podcast.

Racine and I had such a raw conversation about if Men are from Mars and Women Are from Venus. In discussing this topic, he explained how men and women in our community struggle to communicate with each other in relationships because of the origin of our toxic nature which comes from trauma. He stated that our trauma is synonymous with our culture. He also broke down the terminology of "toxic masculinity and toxic femininity" so that we understood what it really meant and not just throw the buzz words around. This conversation was like being in school because he gave us so many nuggets.

Kelvin broadcasts weekly on his YouTube channel Secrets of The Mind Of A Man. He is releasing the much-anticipated book with the same name later in 2022. 

Kelvin gave our tribe so many great dating tips. He states that passion is transformative so if a person is passionate about life, career, or even Star Wars, they have the ability to also be passionate about the person that they are dating! He gave so much insight into how men think when they are in pursuit of dating a woman. He gave us the cheat code on where to find eligible bachelors! Such a fun and eye-opening conversation.

Her passion for empowering people through homeownership has fueled her latest project, Money Matters-Discovering and Navigating through your Money Trauma. She has had her own story of financial trauma that we will discuss tonight.   Under the umbrella of her business P. Bobo-Miles Collective LLC, she works with clients to teach responsible money management and credit. Offering them the guidance and tools to become financially stable. 

I discussed with Patrice some of the struggles that she faced during the housing market crash of 2007-2008. She became an expert in money trauma because she mastered getting out of credit card debt. She talked about some of the financial traumas that we inherited and face in the black community and she gave tangible tools to create a new story surrounding money.

I discussed with Heather the hop topic that most have experienced in our community and that is work trauma and grind culture when it comes to working. Heather explained her personal journey with work trauma as well as her working nonstop as a leader and creating that culture for those who worked for her. She pivoted out of the traditional setting of academia to help those who experience work trauma as well as give leaders tools to create a thriving work environment without the concept of grinding or hustling to work.

An in-depth conversation with Damon V. Avinger. Damon is a Licensed Social Worker based out of New York with 12 years of experience as a therapist working with children and families. He started off as a verbal play therapist and transitioned to psychotherapy. Damon currently works for the City of New York as a Counselor providing workers and their families with clinical help and referrals to other services. He also works for Heartshare St. Vincent in their Article 31 Mental Health Clinic as a therapist, as well as with the Youth Justice Network as a transformative mentor working with young adults with a criminal justice history. Damon also has developed the Socio-Emotional Coaching movement to assist individuals who look for coaching help with managing their emotional development and intelligence. 

Lola discusses with Damon the stages of bouncing back from friendship trauma. It’s never easy when friendships end. You might have been the one to decide to end it, or maybe the former friend decided to end it. The friendship might have been toxic or codependent, or it may have been totally fine and wholesome. It might have ended out of the blue, or the friends might have just gradually drifted apart. We identified unhealthy signs in friendships and Damon gave us tangible things to do once the friendship ends.

HEAL BLACK JOY-Season 2: Episode 17

An in-depth conversation with Dr. Al-Tariq Moore. Dr. Moore is a writing instructor at East Carolina University.  His teaching career spans eleven years and includes teaching composition, 20th Century African American literature, and Women's and Gender Studies courses. He is a research writer as well as a creative writer, currently compiling a book of poetry entitled Outside of Honor: Black Motherverse & Queer Black Boyspeak, slated for release in 2022.

Lola discusses with Dr. Tariq his journey as a young minister in the Christian community. Spiritual trauma occurs as a result of events that threaten and damage our core spiritual values and goals. This can be a result of either abuse by religious/spiritual figures or being raised with a toxic and overbearing interpretation of that religion or spiritual belief. Dr. Tariq recited one of his poems which depicts the sexual trauma that he experienced with a pastor of the church where he worked at. He also told stories of the financial abuse and manipulation of figureheads that want to control the day-to-day routine that he had. His story is very common in the black church community however, many victims don't want to come forward with their stories due to them still being involved with the church or embarrassed and afraid of the consequences of sharing their stories. The show was divine timing being that this video debuts on his birthday and tomorrow he graduates with his Ph.D. We celebrate him for his endurance to persevere and for overcoming these traumatic events of his life.

An in-depth conversation with Kai Kelly. She is a passionate empath that loves words and how they can tell a story. She has been writing since the age of seven. She began sharing her writings humbly through open mics and blogs. She is an author, a poet, and a speaker.

Lola discusses with Kai her literary work "Love Kai" which is a collection of poems that she wrote for the people in her life. Poetry is connection, poetry is healing, poetry is possibility and poetry is impactful. She captured these elements in her work. In her poem, "Letter to My Sistas", she eloquently describes the relationships of beautiful friends. Kai explained how these sacred relationships have somehow been lost and are not as prevalent in today's time. She recited two of her poems-"Reluctant Rehab and Alone in Love".
