HEAL BLACK JOY-Season 1: Episode 1
An in-depth discussion with Sara Hendrix about the Self Care and Self Preservation Journey for Black Women. Sara Hendrix AKA The Black Blonde is a celebrated radio host, college professor, business owner and mover and shaker socialite living in NYC. Her experience and vantage point as a black woman in a major city climbing the corporate educational ladder is key in this discussion. The construct around mental, physical and emotional health that says that we are supposed to (keep going and keep pushing regardless of how we feel) was the norm for black women's grandmothers, mothers, and aunts are not working for black women present day. We wanted to do a deep dive conversation into what our self-care, self-preservation journey for black women looks like now as opposed to what our mothers and grandmothers experienced.
Throughout this episode, Lola questions Sara about how black women should incorporate a self-care and self-preservation journey into their daily lives. Sara explains how it is our birthright to rest and she gives tangible examples of how she has started incorporating rest time for herself.
