Two Wyndham hotels, an AmericInn, and a Super 8 motel will battle it out to see who has the better motel. In theory, AmericInn is considered a premium brand while Super 8 is one of Wyndham's many economy brands the AmericInn should come out on top although the fact that it is considered a premium brand will be taken into consideration in how they are rating. In today's episode of the Travel Fun and Adventure podcast, we take a look at great places to eat in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

When we look at great places to eat we try to find family-friendly places that the kids are going to enjoy as much as the adults. When it comes to kids you cannot help but know that fast food is going to come into play. If you look at our list from Los Angeles half the places were fast food places. 

However, we also avoid national chains because why travel somewhere to only eat the same thing you could back home besides you can usually find better quality food at locally owned businesses and in Los Angeles, there is a lot of great independent fast food places. However, when it comes to fast food we could not find any decent independent fast food places that could make the list in the Twin Cities (If you know of places there please let us know in the Facebook group or email us and we will let people know).

Taking kids on a trip can be a trying experience, but the same could be said of taking a pet with you. But your pet is part of the family so how can you leave them at home? In today's episode, we talk about what you should consider before taking your pet on a trip and some helpful tips to make the journey a better experience.

Questions you should ask before taking your pet on your trip with you:

1. What kind of personality does your pet and will that make them a good traveling companion.

2. If you are flying, what are the policies of the airline.

3. What type of climate are you flying to and is your pet going to be comfortable in that climate?

4. Are you traveling internationally? Check out the policies of the country you are flying to.

5. Do you have all your pet's paperwork?

6. Is your pet microchipped?

7. Consider whether your pet would do better with a family, friend, or pet sitter than on the trip.

Tips for traveling with your pet:

1. Plan some short trips at first to get your pet used to travel.

2. Get a pet carrier that your pet can stand up in and lay down in.

3. Plan more stops to walk your pet because they will probably need to go to the bathroom more often than normal.

4. Bring more treats than you think you should.

5. Consider a pet harness that will hold your pet in the car seat.

6. Does your pet have something they love to sleep and relax on? Try to bring it with you.

7. Book in advance and confirm.

8. Watch out for those pet fees!

This week we take a look at ways that you can save money or stress by showing alternatives to the major expensive attractions in Lo s Angeles and include some ideas for low cost or free things to do.

Instead of going to Disneyland which can be very expensive instead go to either Magic Mountain or Knotts Berry Farm which will take a lot less money out of your pocket. (For full disclosure I do own some shares of Cedar Fun Parks which owns Knotts Berry Farm).

Instead of Universal Studios or the Warner Brothers Studios consider going to the Paramount Studio Tour or Sony Pictures Studios. Another alternative is the Motion Picture Arts Museum which recently opened.

On busy days if you are looking to go to the beach consider going to Huntington Beach instead of Santa Monica Beach or Venice Beach. While both Venice and Santa Monica are incredible places that were part of my childhood they can be absolutely insane, especially on busy days. While traffic will still be a Los Angeles nightmare normal while going to Huntington Beach, you have a lot fewer tourist activities along Hungtington Beach so can be less stressful.

Instead of going to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art go to the Getty Museum instead. While the LA County museum is not overly expensive $25 for adults, $10 for children but the Getty Museum is free.

Other places to consider:

Griffith Park Observatory which is free although parking is not and on weekends will be a nightmare plus cost money for the Planatoriam but is worth a stop along the rest of Griffith Park.

The Los Angeles City Hall Observation Deck is free and a great way to get a birds-eye view of Los Angeles.

The African American Fire Fighter Museum

Olvera Street

California Science Center

Natural History Museum $15 Adults, $7 Children.

Petersen Automotive Museum is $17 for Adults, $12 for Children.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Pasadena City Hall

Caltech

Old Pasadena

Naples Canals in Long Beach

Long Beach Waterfront

Most people dread the thought of flying. If you are flying coach in the US or Europe you know you are going to get minimum service, in seats that probably have poor legroom, plus the thought of going through the TSA checkpoint...

6. To package or not to package?
7. Book hot airfares when you see them, don't wait.
8. Look at alternative airports.
9. Could you end up booking too soon or too late?
10. What is the total price of the airfare?

There is only one major chain in the group, and that is In-N-Out which many consider a must-stop place, but the reason we put this on the list is because of its unique location across the street from a place to spot airplanes landing at LAX.

Pink's Hot Dogs also has several mall locations throughout Southern California plus locations in Hawaii and the Philippines; however, there is only one original Pink's that is more special than the rest.
