  • What Is Celtic Music?

The definition of Celtic music has changed over the last fifty years. It could easily be defined as the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland. That definition no longer works. "Traditional Irish music" is a subset of Celtic music, just like "traditional Scottish music". And "Irish music" does not automatically equal Celtic music. So what is Celtic music the 21st century? This week's Celtic Geek will answer that question in regards to how it is defined by the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast and the Celtic Music Magazine. You may not like the answer! Today's show is brought to you by the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. This is the world's largest podcast for Celtic music that highlights indie Celtic music. The comes out every week and is 100% free to download or listen to online. It's hours upon hours of great Celtic music by some of the best Celtic musicians online. Visit www.celticmusicpodcast.com to thumb your nose at commercial radio while you celebrate one of the most-influential musical styles of the world. • What Is Indie Celtic Music?

After a wonderful CeltFather's Day, it's time for your weekly edition of The Celtic Geek. I thought I'd take the time to re-emphasize my goal in promoting indie Celtic music by sharing some thoughts as to what indie Celtic music is. Today's show is brought to you by Audible. Go to http://marcgunn.com/audible  and you'll get a free audiobook download and a 30-day trial of the service. I recently downloaded Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as read by Stephen Fry. The audiobook will cost you $14.95 on Amazon. It's free if you go through audible right now. Find this show at http://marcgunn.com/celticgeek031

  • Does Hate Make You Feel Better?

I'm feeling extremely bothered by some recent posts on Facebook. I thought I'd share a message of education about manipulation, hate, love and forgiveness. The show is sponsored by Amazon.com. If you want to protect yourself from digital and media manipulation, then check "Influence" by Robert Cialdini. http://marcgunn.com/influence

  • Quidditch World Cup

The Kickstarter for Sci Fi Drinking Songs came to astoundingly awesome ending yesterday. I raised over $6000 for the CD which is far more than I hoped. However, it’s actually more like what I need. I have a lot of bills that I incurred this year with server problems. I’m still paying those off. So it looks like this will not only cover additional costs for the CD, but it’ll also puts a huge dent in those financial issues. So thank you for your support. Today, I want to talk a little about the Quidditch World Cup. I love Harry Potter, and I had a brainstorm for a fun podcast idea. Listen in and you’ll learn that the QWA is not only real, but you could make it come alive even more.

Today’s sponsor is Audible.com. Join Audible and you will not only get a free audiobook and 30-day free trial of the service, but you’ll also be able to find over 100,000 audiobooks that will make your drive easier. Visit http://marcgunn.com/audible/  and support this podcast.

  • 3 Final Previews of Sci Fi Drinking Songs

There's just three days left for my Kickstarter for Sci Fi Drinking Songs. Instead of sharing one song a day, I'm gonna share three songs that have rough mixes already. These are "Doctor of Gallifrey", "A Boy and His Frog" and "Romulan Ale". If you enjoy the music, I want you to do two things. First, sponsor the album. You can pre-order a digital copy for as little as $15. Second, SHARE this preview and the Kickstarter campaign with ALL your friends. The more the merrier.

    Just go to http://marcgunn.com/kickstarter/

  • Those D&D Characters Died Early Mix for Sci Fi Drinking Songs

It's time for me to share more songs from my upcoming album Sci Fi Drinking Songs. I have never written a song inspired by my many, many years playing Dungeons & Dragons. At the beginning of this year, I was back home going through boxes in my dad's attic. I found all of my old D&D books and gaming material, including a folder of the dead. I saved each and every character who I played over the years. There were dozens. I thought it was appropriate that parody Jim Carroll's song "People Who Died" as a fun tribute to D&D and my many dead characters. There are four days left for you to sponsor "Sci Fi Drinking Songs" to keep these dead characters alive for years to come! http://marcgunn.com/kickstarter

  • Final Days In Wales, Dublin Lessons

This year's Celtic Invasion of Wales came to an end. I must say I'm extremely pleased with how well it worked out. Everything I have learned since I started doing trips to Ireland in 2007 and then the Invasions of 2009, it all came into a beautifully formed vacation, filled with glorious sites. good food, good drink, and good company. I had a blast and I think my Invaders did too. My final day in Europe was in Dublin, where Kevin and I got to experience a little of the city before we return home. Now it's time for me to start thinking ahead to next year's Invasion. Right now, I am looking at going back to Dingle, Ireland in 2015. But I won't know for sure for another month. If you'd like to join a Celtic Invasion Vacation and not just see the world through a bus window, but experience it with good people, then sign up to my mailing list at http://www.celticinvasion.com . I hope to see you there!
