My guest today is Steven Howard. He is no stranger to PSI TV. Last year Steven and I talked about how Good Managers can become great leaders and that show is here on this channel so please check that out as well. Steven is the award-winning author of 22 leadership, business, and motivational books and the editor of nine professional and personal development books in the Project You series. Today, Steven is back with us to chat about his latest book, Humony Leadership: Mindsets, Skills and Behaviors for Being a Successful People-Centric Leader. In the interview, Steven answers the following:
1. You have been in this leadership space for a while. The workplace has changed so much, especially with an increasing move to a remote access workforce. How is leadership different when your workforce is remote?
2. What is Humony leadership? By the way, you must have made up the word Humony because I could not find it in any dictionary.
3. Historically, organizational results were the focus, often at the cost of human resources. Then unions came along and forced companies to consider their human resource and Richard Branson is celebrated for saying, “Clients don’t come first, employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your clients.” Is this what it means to be a people-centric leader?
4. Marcus Buckingham is credited with saying, “People leave managers, not companies.” From your perspective, do you find that to be true?
5. Considering that recently companies were struggling to get people to work, this does not speak well for retention statistics if managers mess up, and I am sure you share some strategies in your new book. How do organizations retain their good people and attract good people?
6. Motivation may get us moving but it rarely keeps us moving. What does it take to get leaders to develop the discipline of consistently being good leaders?
7. Is there anything else you would like to share?
