Treasures Along the Path

Joyful love is centered in the heart.

When we direct love upward toward the spiritual eye, toward God, the energy rises. When the energy is rising, you can change the level of your consciousness. If you can bring your level of consciousness high enough, you will find divine inspirations coming to you automatically.

Try this as a deliberate and daily practice: learn to live from the spiritual eye, keep your mind centered there.

Fulfilling Your Destiny – God is the Doer in all circumstances. Go within and ask for guidance.

The most helpful thing we can do for the world is to open ourselves to God’s divine power, and allow His greater energy to be what we transmit to others.

The one constant in the universe is God’s energy flowing through us, and that’s who we really are, not the personality or things we do. Our mission is not to do big things, it is to be in the consciousness of being one with God at all times.

When you think that in all you are doing, it is God doing it through you, you will feel a sense of freedom.

Yogananda said ‘I killed Yogananda long ago. No one dwells in this temple, but God.’

Realize that our love is really God’s love flowing through us.

Love God in all, and you will see that problems are only real, to the extent we give them reality. Everything is solved in God’s joy.

Try to feel your oneness with God and expand your ego into infinity, rather than think of how you can shrink your ego. Give everything to God!

God can see God but man cannot see God. So, the answer is to become God.

How to Deepen Your Spiritual Life – do everything for and with God. Offer everything up to Him.

When we do good works and serve God, we move beyond our little selves and become God’s instruments.  We come to realize that we are a part of a greater reality and our sense of identity expands.

It doesn’t do any good to repress the ego.

Live joyously for God. You will become more and more free, more and more deep.

In that depth, you will find an increasing receptivity and ability to listen for guidance.

God as Divine Mother – feeling close to God as Her child

God can be visualized as having a form. First, we need to think in terms of God with a form to be able to reach the realization of God in a formless state. God is neither male or female. God is not literally a mother but an aspect of consciousness.

Yogananda said, ‘thoughts are universally, not individually rooted.’

Depending what level of consciousness you are on, that kind of consciousness will manifest itself through your thoughts.

To realize who we really are, we need to go beyond the ego. The ego is our friend or our foe, depending on how we use it.

You suffer when you hate, but you are happy when you love. Therefore, strictly in your own self-interest – love! It’s very sensible.

When you are in a giving mode, then you grow.

We need to share our thoughts with someone, why not think of God and share? You will be relating to somebody who can’t possibly let you down. God is your own self.

What happens when you limit your sensitivity to others? You become smaller and smaller and you suffer. Try to expand your sensitivity to realize that your little ego has the same center that is in all people and in every atom. We are one with all.

Divine Mother loves you, is on your side and will not judge you no matter what you do. She’s your friend and will forgive and uplift you always.

Intuition is soul knowledge.

If it weren’t for our feeling aspect, we would not have understanding. Reason by itself is an inadequate tool. Reason can show you 100 directions to go in, and they all make good sense. What is it that tells you this is the direction to go? Feeling!

We can see a need in human evolution to express feminine energy. You can think more of God as the Mother, who expresses calmness and forgiveness.

Don’t accept failure as a definition. The world will try to define you by your faults. You must define yourself by your aspirations.

Devotion and Spiritual Growth – do everything for, and with God.

In this talk Kriyananda goes right to the heart of the teachings: how to love God more.

He reminds us that God doesn’t care what we know, but how much we love. 

Divine Mother likes simple devotion, and in prayer she responds to the quality of our hearts, not our words. 

When we meditate with just our minds it doesn’t feed the soul; we must meditate with devotion!

Arrive at understanding using the mind & the heart

The subject of intellect vs. heart is a very, very important one. They have found that there is a certain amount of gray matter in the heart. Western culture has been one-sided in the direction of intellect.

Yogananda said the motivation of human beings is twofold: to avoid suffering to attain happiness.

The joy of God and the joy of your soul is something that is always there, constantly bubbling in your heart.

True joy is always new, you never tire of it. It is the goal of life.

Thomas a Kempis writes in The Imitation of Christ, that delusions are so much a part of our habit structure, it is it is difficult to let go of them.

Try to focus your calm feeling and direct it to the point between the eyebrows.

Love God. It is much more important than knowing God intellectually. You can know God in the heart because God is love. You need to love Him to understand Him.

Jesus taught that the intellect alone cannot lead one to truth. Without fixity of purpose born of the heart’s devotion, the intellect wanders endlessly. It cannot settle for long on anything.

When we develop intuition we can transcend the limits of the intellect. We need to have balance in our lives with using both intuition and the intellect. Kriyananda encourages us to develop our intuition, explaining that through the intuition, we gain access to the wisdom of the universe. In fact, it is only through the intuition that we can gain complete understanding of anything. We each have our own melody to sing. May we sing in harmony with the universe.

The Importance of Individual Effort – we need to do our part to put forth our own energy to grow spiritually. God responds when we make the effort to reach out to Him.

Kriyananda makes clear that outer conditions do not determine whether or not we make spiritual progress.

Many people think that when they have more time, they will meditate more, or that when this or that happens, then they will finally be able to seek God in earnest.

Always keep a corner of your heart open for the Divine Mother. The Mother is closer than the Father.
