Trek Wars

We celebrate Kenny's birthday the best way possible: by watching Star Trek and Star Wars! We begin our journey into Ewoks. We also talk about how we engage with artificial intelligence (considering this week's episode of Star Trek does just that).

Aspen talks about our relationship to AI and how it has evolved since the 1960s. Kenny talks about the deregulation of children's TV shows and how close Ewoks was to Care Bears. And we both struggle with watching Ewoks for the first time.

It's the one you've been waiting for: we start talking DROIDS!

We go hard by talking about economic systems within both Star Trek and Star Wars. Aspen talks about the queer coding of Mudd while also absolutely loathing the politics of Mudd's Women. Kenny talks about if Jord is an offensive stereotype of overweight sidekicks.

We both talk about being so horny, you are literally sweating. And finally, we try very, very hard to remember what the plot of "The White Witch" is, even though we read the plot synopsis at the beginning.

Aspen finished DS9 for the first time, so we have a big honkin' dissection of her experience!

This week, we take a ride on the Caravan! Of Courage! We talk around the drama of our format. We praise Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure for being self-contained. Kenny raises a prickly question to Aspen about Star Trek. Aspen successfully turns Kenny around on the very twerpy Mace. And a huuuuuuge rating controversy rocks the podcast...FOREVER!

Aspen's caught up on Star Trek Prodigy (through episode 10)! She talks about Prodigy and its aspects of found family. She also puts a perfect point on why Janeway is the perfect mentor figure of this show. Aspen also takes a hot stance on souls. Yeah...souls. Kenny likes the Protostar.

We also touch on Andor episode 9 and a brief discussion on media that transcends itself, like Everything Everywhere All At Once.

This week! We touch upon found family and emotions in both properties. Kenny makes Aspen talk about the famous golden Leia bikini. Aspen masterfully talks about what makes Return of the Jedi special. We talk about which Trek characters we would drag. And Kenny goes at length about the masterful direction of The Naked Time and Spock in general.

This week, our two episodes fit up unusually well. Aspen talks about the difference of agency that women have in Star Wars vs. Star Trek. Kenny talks about how much of a dork Kirk is in this episode. And we both wrestle with the fundamental emotions vs. philosophy approach in Star Trek and Star Wars.

This week, we're talking about just how potent Andor is. We talk about the complicated nature of consuming this beautiful piece of anti-fascist art that is coming from a company that applies...kind of fascist methods. We also talk about Diego Luna being a little cutie, and just get up to shenanigans.

It's a real nail-biter this week. Aspen watches the Star Wars Holiday Special for the first time. Kenny attempts to contextualize the Holiday Special in the time it was made and explains just how bonkers this thing is.

Aspen and Kenny also talk about how great Charlie X is, how great D.C. Fontana is, and contextualize this episode with the rise of teenagers in popular culture. If you're looking for deep dives on themes in big sci-fi, this one is it, baby!
