The Golden Globe Nominations for 2019 and does the outcome even matter? That's the question, really.
We here at Minnimal are curious, as are everyone to see what the always accurate HFPA (hollywood foreign press assoc) have to say about what they think the best films of the year are.
Almost always, it's films that haven't been released yet. This year is no different.
Commenting today on the Screen Junkies News reaction video to the snubs that they feel were unfairly overlooked. Noticeably, Toni Collette and her performance in Hereditary.
Sure - it's sad. But the entire awards ceremony exists in a bubble that the market as a whole does not care about.
What about if we just use the market to judge the best films - that would mean the little guys wouldn't get a say.
But if the little guys made their way to the top to be viewed by all - having lifted the standard of their work - they would be in with a chance.
It would be a true metric.
I'm not saying it would work - i'm saying 5 - 10 years from now it might work.
But we'll never know.
