One of Jesus’ most famous sayings is: “I am the light of the world.” But what exactly does Jesus mean by that statement? In this message we look at both the biblical and historical contexts to discover the extraordinary reality of which Jesus points so that our hearts may be tuned afresh to praise Him.

Unless you regularly use a King James translation then you have probably noticed a break at the end of John 7 and beginning of John 8. Usually the text is bracketed with a footnote stating that not all ancient manuscripts contain this passage. The age old question is this: Is John 7:53-8:11 part of John’s gospel? In this message we look at the question of its authenticity and from there we study its message in our usual manner. In the process we discover that the heart of this passage is the gospel.

Jesus famously said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” In this message we look at the context in which Jesus shares these words, the meaning of these words, and the reaction of the people to these words.

I am often asked, “Why should you believe Christianity over all other religions?” Here is the answer in one word--”Resurrection.” In this message we look at a number of key events leading up to the crucifixion of Christ and from there follow those who made the remarkable discovery early on the Sunday morning which followed. The tomb was empty--Christ had risen. What are the implications of this? They are staggering. This message closes with three of them.

It would be hard to overstate the significance of the event traditionally entitled Palm Sunday. Here Jesus rides into Jerusalem conscientiously declaring Himself to be both King and Messiah. And the crowds enthusiastically rush out to proclaim Jesus their King. The problem is, Jesus does not turn out to be the King they were looking for. Herein lies a very important lesson for the church--one that needs to be taken ever so seriously. Many are calling on Jesus to stand with them in their political and social agendas when our true calling is to learn of Jesus’ agenda and stand to serve Him. The result is a distorted Christianity that looks very little like the Christianity of the New Testament.

The world asks, “Why should we listen to Christianity? Why Listen to Jesus? In our passage this morning Jesus gives us three reasons: 1) His teaching is from God the Father 2) Jesus, Himself is from God the Father 3) Jesus is returning to God the Father. In lieu of these three realities we must: 1) embrace His teaching as certain fact 2) embrace Christ because our lives truly do depend on Him 3) follow Him wherever He leads us.

What are the biblical sacraments? What is their purpose? What do they do? How does God use them? How should we understand them? Where are the answers to these questions taught in Scripture? In this message, we look at the biblical sacraments of Passover, the Lord’s Supper, Circumcision and Baptism in their historical context with an eye to answering these important questions.

In this message we look at Jesus’ response to the charge of Sabbath breaking. In doing this we get some of the ground rules behind Christian ethics. How can the Old Testaments priests work harder on the Sabbath and not be found guilty of breaking it? How can a person be circumcised on the Sabbath and be guiltless of breaking it? These are just some of the questions we take up.

In this message we discover much about the great mystery in how we become believers as well as gain valuable information in how we should carry out the work of apologetics. How many times have you heard someone respond to the gospel by saying “That is your opinion.” In this message we are reminded that the gospel is not our opinion but teaching directly from the Father Himself.
