There are a couple of interpretations of Genesis 6:1-4. One interprets fallen angels siring children to the “daughters of men.” In this message, Rick looks at two popular interpretations of this important verse and from there makes an important application, namely the dangers of slipping away, living by impulse and feeling, and not being grounded in the word of God.

Last week we began to look at one of the types of passages that are often overlooked, namely, the genealogies. In this message our study of the genealogy continues. In this study, Rick backs up to Genesis three and redevelops the first gospel announcement in verse 15. From there he shows how the themes of the gospel develop in chapters four and five. There we see that we have a real history, involving real people, who choose a real destiny. This culminates into the hard fact that it is never a waste to follow Jesus!

In the Scriptures there are numerous genealogies. You know those lists of names that you can barely pronounce. Have you ever been tempted to just skim through them? Have you ever been tempted to pass over them altogether? In this message, Rick seeks to develop the purpose of one of the genealogies found in the book of Genesis. In doing this we discover a very powerful and practical message.

It is a temptation for some to skip these dark passages. But God has given them to us for our benefit that we might grow in grace. One of the lessons we learn from Genesis 4 is where the dark road of rejecting God leads. In this message, working through the passage verse by verse, Rick points out a number of important insights that are gained by studying this dark road.

In this dark passage we see the unfortunate fate of a man who refuses God’s mercy and grace each step of the way. In this message, Rick draws a number of lessons to be learned from the dark path of Cain, namely, to take care lest an unbelieving heart leads us to fall away.

After Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion the disciples plunged into a state of exceptional grief, confusion, loss, and even unbelief. Immediately following His resurrection, Jesus meets His followers right in the midst of this loss and unbelief. In this message Rick develops this to show how Jesus also meets us in our weakness, unbelief, and loss.

Sometimes things do not go the way you want them to. And this can be very painful especially when you have your whole heart invested. Nor is it uncommon to reach a point in your life where you say, “This is not the way I wanted it to go.” In this message, Rick explains the significance of “Palm Sunday” to show how Christ can bring healing to dashed hopes.

Many can resonate with these words: “I want to change but I can’t.” Receiving help from the Lord and praising Him in worship are directly connected.
