May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are happy to have speak with us today, Sarah Farris, LCPC - a licensed clinical professional counselor from Chicago Mind & Body, LLC here in Chicago. On today's episode, we interview Sarah about her relationship with triathlon, illustrate some common misconceptions or stigmas around athlete mental health, offer suggestions on resources and strategies when working through anxiety around training/racing, and more. We hope to have this be an ongoing series for the channel and we would love the opportunity for more of our viewers to open up and ask questions or share their story as it relates to mental health and being an athlete.

Today, we welcome Dr. Erin Short to the Tri Talk series to talk about Physical Therapy and its place and importance in the world of endurance sports.
Dr. Erin Short, PT, DPT, COMT, CSCS received her doctorate degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She has over eight years of experience working in the Chicago area with significant experience working with Endurance and Cross Fit athletes. Dr. Short is currently the Clinic Director of Ignite Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, with two locations, one in Ravenswood and the other in the West Loop of Chicago. Dr. Short operates primarily out of the Ravenswood area.
Erin is trained in Women’s Health, the McKenzie Technique, Dry Needling, Graston, Video Gait Analysis and Manual Therapy. As a former division one swimmer at the University of Illinois and a semi-elite marathon runner, Erin relates to her clients from her own athletic background. Erin also has several years experience competing in triathlon in the Olympic and half ironman distance. Erin has a fitness forward approach working with her patients and promote staying as active as possible while respecting their injury.
In our ~30 min conversation, we discuss when it's the right time to see a physical therapist and dispel some of the myths surrounding physical therapy.
