  • Praise God…Even in the Midst of Loss
    Steven Weiss is the Student Ministries Assistant.
    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
    13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

  • Praise Him for His Ways are Just
    Psalm 137
    By the waters of Babylon,
    there we sat down and wept,
    when we remembered Zion.
    On the willows there
    we hung up our lyres.
    For there our captors
    required of us songs,
    and our tormentors, mirth, saying,
    “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
    How shall we sing the Lord's song
    in a foreign land?
    If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
    let my right hand forget its skill!
    Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,
    if I do not remember you,
    if I do not set Jerusalem
    above my highest joy!
    Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites
    the day of Jerusalem,
    how they said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare,
    down to its foundations!”
    O daughter of Babylon, doomed to be destroyed,
    blessed shall he be who repays you
    with what you have done to us!
    Revelation 15:2-4
    And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

  • Praise Him for Forgiveness and Healing
    Kyle Smethurst is Student Ministries Pastor.
    Psalm 103
    Bless the Lord, O my soul,
        and all that is within me,
        bless his holy name!
    2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
        and forget not all his benefits,
    3 who forgives all your iniquity,
        who heals all your diseases,
    4 who redeems your life from the pit,
        who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
    5 who satisfies you with good
        so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
    6 The Lord works righteousness
        and justice for all who are oppressed.
    7 He made known his ways to Moses,
        his acts to the people of Israel.
    8 The Lord is merciful and gracious,
        slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
    9 He will not always chide,
        nor will he keep his anger forever.
    10 He does not deal with us according to our sins,
        nor repay us according to our iniquities.
    11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
        so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
    12 as far as the east is from the west,
        so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
    13 As a father shows compassion to his children,
        so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
    14 For he knows our frame;[a]
        he remembers that we are dust.
    15 As for man, his days are like grass;
        he flourishes like a flower of the field;
    16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
        and its place knows it no more.
    17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
        and his righteousness to children's children,
    18 to those who keep his covenant
        and remember to do his commandments.
    19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
        and his kingdom rules over all.
    20 Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
        you mighty ones who do his word,
        obeying the voice of his word!
    21 Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
        his ministers, who do his will!
    22 Bless the Lord, all his works,
        in all places of his dominion.
    Bless the Lord, O my soul!

  • Praise Him for Certainty of Salvation
    Steven Weiss is Student Ministries Assistant
    1 Timothy 6:17-19
    17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

  • Summer of Praise: God Answers Prayer
    Dr. Tom Petter is Senior Pastor.
    1 Samuel 1:9-19
    9 After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the Lord. 10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
    12 As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth.13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman. 14 And Eli said to her, “How long will you go on being drunk? Put your wine away from you.” 15 But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the Lord. 16 Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.” 17 Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.” 18 And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
    19 They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her.

  • Summer of Praise: Song of Triumph
    Dr. Tom Petter is Senior Pastor.
    Exodus 15:1-12
    Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,
    “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
        the horse and his rider[a] he has thrown into the sea.
    2 The Lord is my strength and my song,
        and he has become my salvation;
    this is my God, and I will praise him,
        my father's God, and I will exalt him.
    3 The Lord is a man of war;
        the Lord is his name.
    4 “Pharaoh's chariots and his host he cast into the sea,
        and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea.
    5 The floods covered them;
        they went down into the depths like a stone.
    6 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,
        your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
    7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries;
        you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble.
    8 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up;
        the floods stood up in a heap;
        the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
    9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake,
        I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them.
        I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’
    10 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them;
        they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
    11 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?
    Who is like you, majestic in holiness,
    awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?
    12 You stretched out your right hand;
    the earth swallowed them.
    Colossians 2:11-15
    11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities[a] and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.[b]

  • Becoming Disciples: End Game
    Dr. Tom Petter is Senior Pastor.
    Mark 13:1-13
    And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!”2 And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”
    Signs of the End of the Age
    3 And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5 And Jesus began to say to them, “See that no one leads you astray. 6 Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. 7 And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet.8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.
    9 “But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them. 10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. 11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. 13 And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
    8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

  • Becoming Disciples: Good News for Doubters
    Dr. Tom Petter is Senior Pastor.
    Mark 12:18-27
    18 And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying, 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man[a] must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.20 There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring. 21 And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise. 22 And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.”
    24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.”

  • Becoming Disciples: Servant Leadership
    Dr. Tom Petter is Senior Pastor.
    Mark 10:35-45
    35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” 36 And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” 37 And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” 38 Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[a] 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave[b] of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  • Becoming Disciples: No Turning Back
    Kyle Smethurst is Student Ministries Pastor.
    Mark 8: 31-38
    31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
    34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?37 For what can a man give in return for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
