As we begin a new year we want to ground ourselves first in the Bible. So we look at the promises of God found in Psalm 23, and then look at what's in story for Trinity, Lord willing, for this next season.

Biblical hope isn't a desire for something good to happen it's a confident expectation for something good in the future based on who God is.

On this fourth Sunday of advent, we look at the hope and the faith of Mary and Joseph.

What does it mean that Jesus' name is "Emmanuel (which means 'God with Us')"?

Well, three things:

- Jesus is God

- Jesus is human

- Jesus is with us

Do you ever get to the genealogies in the Bible and just sort of.... skip them?

This morning we're looking at Matthew's genealogy that he opens his gospel with and taking special note of 5 women listed.

To understand Christmas is to understand basic Christianity, to understand the Gospel. To first understand Christianity, we need to start with the understanding that the world is a dark place, and we won't find our way unless Jesus is our light.
