The desert and the parched land will be glad;
    the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, 2 it will burst into bloom;
    it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
    the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the Lord,
    the splendor of our God.

3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
    steady the knees that give way;

4 say to those with fearful hearts,
    “Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
    he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
    he will come to save you.”

5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
    and the ears of the deaf unstopped.

6 Then will the lame leap like a deer,
    and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
    and streams in the desert.

7 The burning sand will become a pool,
    the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
In the haunts where jackals once lay,
    grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.

8 And a highway will be there;
    it will be called the Way of Holiness;
    it will be for those who walk on that Way.
The unclean will not journey on it;
    wicked fools will not go about on it.

9 No lion will be there,
    nor any ravenous beast;
    they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed will walk there,

10     and those the Lord has rescued will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
    everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
    and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Thanks for listening to our midweek advent service! We hope you find great comfort and joy in this message, solidifying out knowledge that Jesus came to forgive our sins, and talks to God the Father on our behalf. He was born, suffered, died, and rose again all for us. Why? Because he wanted to! Praise God!



4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.

Hello, and thanks for listening!
We all spend a lot of time and money to try to gain security and power so we feel in control, but nothing quite satisfies. We always have the underlying anxiety that there is something more powerful out there. The Israelites felt this, as they were about to be taken over by Syria. They knew this would happen, and that it was their fault. They were warned by the prophets to repent, and they did nothing! They started to doubt that God would keep his promises, since they had been so disobedient and awful. But these words paint a beautiful picture of the peace that God will bring, and He reminds them that He is a GOD OF GRACE, and they (and we) cannot out-sin God's grace! He keeps all of His promises! And out of this stump that is Israel after this fall into Syrian power, God will make a shoot grow, and from that line, the Savior will be born!

God does not fail us, and never will!

Isaiah 11:1-10
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
    from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
    the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
    the Spirit of counsel and of might,
    the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—

3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
    or decide by what he hears with his ears;

4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
    with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
    with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

5 Righteousness will be his belt
    and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

6 The wolf will live with the lamb,
    the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together;
    and a little child will lead them.

7 The cow will feed with the bear,
    their young will lie down together,
    and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
    and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.

9 They will neither harm nor destroy
    on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
    as the waters cover the sea.

10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.

Hello, and welcome to the beginning of this Advent season! In the sermon today, we are all able to relate with the stories Pastor shares. In this current social climate, it seems all everyone wants to do is fight. If someone doesn't agree with you, they are wrong! Well, it wasn't that different in Isaiah's time! But instead of asking for tolerance, where we tend to just ignore the differences to keep "peace," Isaiah asks for  UNITY. Unity in what matters the most and can bring all of us together: Unity in the gospel! This will bring real peace to all, and the focus is not on us, but on Jesus and all he has done for us. 

Let's take a little extra time this Advent and Christmas season to focus on that unity, and the pure joy we all have in the gift of heaven given to us by this baby Jesus!

This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 In the last days

the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
    and all nations will stream to it.

3 Many peoples will come and say,

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
    so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
    the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

4 He will judge between the nations
    and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
    nor will they train for war anymore.

5 Come, descendants of Jacob,
    let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Happy Thanksgiving! What is the recipe for true thankfulness? Listen to find out what needs to be part of a truly thankful heart, see how Zacchaeus had all the elements of this, but even more so, see how Jesus did everything for us out of love, and see the reasons we have to be thankful to him! What will your thankful actions be?

Try to take a moment during the busy day tomorrow and the upcoming holiday season, and slow down, and give thanks.

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Hello! And thanks for listening! Today we look at the story of the crucifixion, and the thief that asked Jesus to remember him. We remember that Jesus did all that he did with us on his mind. He lived a perfect life, suffered the pain of all our sins, and died, because he chose YOU! And he paved a brand new path for us to follow him on... a path to heaven!

Hello, and thanks for listening! Paul is addressing the Thessalonians concerning a rumor that is going around that Judgement Day has already come and gone. They are concerned about the purpose of life if this already happened! He teaches them that Judgement Day is still coming, and also why they can see that as an exciting thing. We too can look forward to Judgement Day with excitement and anticipation! Why? We have already been rescued from the opposing side! We are on God's side, by the miracle of Jesus coming to earth, living and dying for us and for our sins.

But what about those we love whom are on the opposing side still? There is still today, there is still time to share the message of joy and forgiveness through Jesus with them! They can still be rescued and have heaven to look forward too as well.

5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing firewith his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

It is very common for people to look for something to learn from grief, and to get through it as soon as possible. But there is no lesson to be learned from grief. Grief is real. Stress is real. Pastor helps us look at this section of Revelation, and see that it is the culmination of the promise first given in the Garden of Eden, the promise of a Savior. Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.

Happy Reformation! As we celebrate this event in history, we need to look at the WHY, because it's easy to see the controversy it caused, the division, and not see the good that came from it. We do not celebrate the controversy or Luther himself, but JESUS.

In John 8, Jesus is talking to people who already believed in him. Why do they get upset with him when he promises them freedom? They know he is talking about spiritual freedom, and they believe they already have that, just because they are Abraham's descendants! They are taking credit for their freedom, when it is not anything we do or who we are related to that give us spiritual freedom, but Jesus, who came to make us sons and daughters of God! Thank you, Jesus, for freeing us from spiritual destruction and giving us eternal life in heaven with you!

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
