When Jesus Christ uttered the words, "It is finished," it was not a cry of despair or defeat, but a thunderous proclamation of victory over sin and Satan. Jesus Christ lived to fulfill the law perfectly, and He died to pay a debt none of us could ever repay.

Today, as we reflect on the death of our Lord, we are reminded that through His suffering, His blood, and His sacrifice, we are no longer bound by sin and the judgement it carries. We are redeemed.

Jesus chose His disciples not because of their merit, status, or accomplishments but out of pure, unconditional love. Nothing they did earned His favour. He drew them close, walked among them, and gave them something no worldly treasure could match: His own presence. Beyond that fellowship, He entrusted them with a great commission, a purpose far greater than themselves.

As Jesus began performing miracles, His fame spread rapidly among both Jews and Gentiles. Large crowds followed Him, seeking healing from sickness and deliverance from demons. While these are good reasons, they sought Jesus only for their earthly needs. Sadly, they did not see Him as their Messiah, who could give them a far greater deliverance from sin and eternal judgment.

Even today, there is a “popular” Christ who is sought only for material benefits. Each person must examine their heart: are they following Jesus for worldly comfort, or to truly know Him? Do they believe in the true gospel of Jesus Christ or in the popular prosperity gospel? This sermon explores the dangers of a “popular” Christ and how we can examine our hearts to see whether we follow Jesus Christ for who He truly is.

Legalism can be a mark of a prideful person. This was very evident in the lives of the pharisees. Under the guise of piety, they distorted the truth of God's goodness and grace. This sermon focuses on the delusion of legalists and how their legalism brings forth death and suffering.

When God made a covenant with Abraham, He promised to be God not only to him but also to his children. God set Abraham’s children apart through the sign of circumcision. His covenant promises belong not only to Abraham but also, through faith, to the children of believing parents. They are a holy seed set apart for the Lord.
