Errors To Avoid, That:

1. The Fourth Commandment Is Abolished

2. The Sabbath Was Only For The Israelites

3. We Are The Lords Of The Sabbath

4. The New Testament Says Nothing But Sunday Worship

5. It Is Not Written In Everyone's Conscience

Jonah 1:3-6 

Jonah Fleeing (V3) 

But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.

God's Hurling (V4)

But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea so that the ship threatened to break up. 

Mariner's Fears (V5-6)

Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep. 6 So the captain came and said to him, “What do you mean you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish.”

James 4:13-17 

Self Sovereignty puts me at the center of my universe (V13) 

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 

Self Sovereignty fails to acknowledge human frailty (V14)

yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 

Self Sovereignty fails to live in submission to God (V15)

Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 

Self Sovereignty comes from pride (V16)

As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 

Verse 17

 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

Change Of Day

John 20:1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

John 20:19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews,[a] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

John 20:26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Creation Ordinance

The Forth Commandment

Exodus 20:8-11: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

James 4:1-6 

1 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. 4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
