Thank you for downloading the fourth part of my Istanbul story. If you haven't listened to the first three parts, please do so first.
They include my friend Benjy's story growing up in a war torn Syria, the tragedies he experienced, and his struggle to immigrate to Turkey.
In this episode, Benjy is joined by his Syrian friend Malek and the chat turns to their Islamic faith and its misrepresentation.
It includes:
* Together they explain why the Koran is misread and used by the terrorist group ISIS to spread hatred, violence, and fear across the world.
* How the actions of ISIS have nothing to do with religion.
* The reason why the dictator Assad released ISIS prisoners from Syrian jails.

Thank you for downloading the second part of my Istanbul story. If you haven't listened to the first part, please do so first. It includes the first part of my friend Benjy's story growing up in a war torn Syria.
In this episode his story of his childhood under the dictatorship in Syria is truly heartbreaking.
It includes:
* How his mother disappeared after two years of the revolution and what happened to her.
* How he and his brother lived for a further 5 years under the regime, without water and power in their home, after the regime cut off the supply to every home.
* How he joined the Freedom Army as a 13 year old clerk. After witnessing a traumatic event, his desire for retribution led him to the army’s frontline.
I will be sharing more tales from my time in Istanbul and the third part of Benjy's story in tomorrow's podcast.

After 100 days in Istanbul I finally made it home. My trip there would have been 18 days shorter but there were issues with my flight home due to the Covid-19 crisis.
In this podcast I share a few tales from the start of my time there, and play the first part of my chat with Benjy.
Benjy was the closet friend I made during my time there, with the most intriguing life of anyone I've ever met. I had to get it down on tape and share it with as many people that would listen. It was a perfect chance to start my podcast again.
The first part of his story includes:
* How he learned English and other languages.
* What life was like for him as a child and other Syrians under the rule of the dictator Bashar el Assad.
* The story of the punishment given to a group of children, which led to an uprising from the Syrian people and the formation of the Freedom Army.
I will be sharing more tales from my time in Istanbul and my chat with Benjy of the next 3 days.
