  • tripping balls.253 Good tunes bad times: our 2020 Album Of The Year special
103 new albums, two top five lists and a generous excess of Knife Party IPA: yes folks it's time for the tripping balls 2020 Album Of The Year special, counting down our favourite albums from all the new music we've reviewed on the music pod this year. Also mentioned in dispatches: opening remarks, appreciating the good, earning all caps, darkness in the sunshine, joy as a tiebreaker, Paul’s Boutique for washed GenXers, having the time, algorithmic nonsense, fun in the time of coronavirus, button pushing synergy, doing a good job of a bad job, Canadian phases, deep in his bag, where is your brain, starting points, vibe bias, really really, inappropriate injury rehab, hors catégorie albums, highly commended, speculative Hail Marys, quarterly reviews, being a month behind the zeitgeist, which witch is which redux, mid-90s grunge aesthetics, pointlessly damp, don’t believe the hype, legacy rescue jobs, joker stretches, on-air production meetings and being unable to stop the rock. Next week: three-album runs. Yes, only a month behind the zeitgeist (look, we were on leave.) Recent review albums are in our album review playlist on Spotify, which also has the full archive of all the new music we’ve reviewed this year and our tripping balls 2020 mixtape of our favourite tracks from this year’s albums. The full list of all the new and classic albums we've reviewed on the pod since the beginning, and Beeso's playlist for his boys are also available elsewhere on the internet. • BALLS.271 Harden Trade II: Trade Harder
In the spirit of crappy sequels to ideas which played out and were played out 8-10 years ago, a blockbuster trade hit the NBA which sent one of the league’s true superstars across the country to a new team. Yes, Dante Exum is now a Houston Rocket. And in the spirit of absolutely original ideas in NBA podcasting, Doc and Beeso are here to argue over the winners and losers of The James Harden Trade (not that James Harden Trade, this one). Also: Chrome sucks, Brooklyn cliches, rough times in the restaurant business, better be home soon, the inherent pointless futility of trying to psychoanalyse Kyrie A. Irving, leave excuses, scouting layoffs, wins pool admin, trying to do internet at the same time as talking, bought not built, Sabonis vs Jokic, pour a little out for Nurk since he can’t do it himself for a bit, the Philly Shake, winning by staying home, Cleveland blocks, contract year Dante, paying youth rates, sucking cheaply, everyone’s a winner baby (not you Jacque Vaughn), Sixers psy-ops, the Draymondisation of Ben Simmons, directing traffic, Denver vs Dallas, seven minutes on the Bol, is everything Tilman Fertitta’s fault, test cricket is for mind boomers, laughing at Melbourne, your teammates think you’re a knob and 99% Ineffective. BALLS and tripping balls are available on their own RSS feeds, as well as being found together on Omny Studio,Spotify and Apple Podcasts (feel free to subscribe, rate and review) - and we welcome your reckons via Twitter, Facebook and email.

  • BALLS.270 Shouting into a bin
It’s our traditional Small Sample Size Masterpiece Theatre episode as we massively overreact to emergent trends from a handful of games of the new NBA season. Also: being bad at opening beers, who are these people, congratulations to the Western Conference Champion Phoenix Suns, forgot about Dray, grownup supervision, who worries you, lads it’s the Clippers, bad faith Steph legacy arguments, the Efficiency Landscape, everybody needs somebody, wins pool draft regrets, Nugs-Raps synergy, box scores vs impacts on winning, dad fights, institutional stench, expansion, pacing the East, Dante’s infernal injuries, mentioning the Knicks, oversharing with your boss, bearded Dions, the Waterboy, valet service, score-first-last-and-always guards, the 82nd best player in the NBA, advocating violence as a coaching methodology, performative bin-kicking, clustering around .500, previewing next week’s tripping balls Album Of The Year episode and bonus third test coverage. Apologies for Doc’s variable mic quality this ep, we’ll be back to just having trash content instead next week. • tripping balls.252 Get in the shark
Our final new music review ep of 2020, featuring new albums from The Nude Party and Model Child, and a look back at the Black Sorrows’ Hold On To Me.  Also: exile from Main Street, performative self-destruction, trapped in 1980s amber, cardboard kicks, alternative Christmas playlists, rays of sunshine, Doc’s long shortlist, three-album top fives, built for Reverse Patreon, other people’s AOTYs, other unwanted diseases from the Northern Beaches, unicorn faves, safety first, Venn overlaps and hammock season.
Have a great holiday break - we’ll be back in mid January with our Album Of The Year Special, because what kind of two-bit organisation of frauds and charlatans wraps 2020 in November.

  • BALLS.269 Defence is for losers: our 2020-21 NBA Wins Draft & Season Preview
This week: the NBA is back (yes, already) and Adam, Beeso and the Doc (very possibly several pints deep from his work Xmas party) are previewing the upcoming season the only way they know how: by drafting teams into their regular season wins pool which the Doc always wins and is incredibly gracious about as you'd expect. Also: modern currency, the East doesn’t suck as much this year, ringing your mum for career advice, every game is an away game, bubble anxiety, Beeso has issues, Pakistan kicking off, Steve Steve, making sacrifices to win, NTSC bleed, stop trying to be interesting, entire rosters of sixth men, half-cooked prospects, trading for Stuff the Magic Dragon, Bad Boys 2020, #FreeBlake, fast bowler bodies, the next Bogut, leaving LA-LA land, Doc’s heel turn, upside picks, Starbury All Stars, going for a slashie, Simmons vs Embiid in a brand new context, reliable mediocrity, reputation rehabilitation, all podcast business is settled, declaring at sunset and most influential cringe. For posterity, here's all the picks we made (spoilers, obviously).
