Trolling With Logic

Are we living in a post-truth era? What is “fake news,” and what problems does it pose to critical thinkers and reason-oriented activists? What is the alternative to “alternative facts”? In this episode, we speak with Dr. Gleb Tsipursky, a consultant, speaker, and author who specializes in behavioral science and the psychology of decision-making. Dr. Tsipursky is the President of the non-profit organization Intentional Insights, dedicated to advocating for truth and reason in politics. He is the author and organizer of the Pro-Truth Pledge, part of a movement designed to reverse the tide of lies and fake news in politics and the wider culture by providing incentives to public figures to base their statements on verifiable truth.

About the church of satan "Founded on April 30, 1966 c.e. by Anton Szandor LaVey, we are the first above-ground organization in history openly dedicated to the acceptance of Man’s true nature—that of a carnal beast, living in a cosmos that is indifferent to our existence. To us, Satan is the symbol that best suits the nature of we who are carnal by birth—people who feel no battles raging between our thoughts and feelings, we who do not embrace the concept of a soul imprisoned in a body. He represents pride, liberty, and individualism—qualities often defined as Evil by those who worship external deities, who feel there is a war between their minds and emotions.

As Anton LaVey explained in his classic work The Satanic Bible, Man—using his brain—invented all the Gods, doing so because many of our species cannot accept or control their personal egos, feeling compelled to conjure up one or a multiplicity of characters who can act without hindrance or guilt upon whims and desires. All Gods are thus externalized forms, magnified projections of the true nature of their creators, personifying aspects of the universe or personal temperaments which many of their followers find to be troubling. Worshipping any God is thus worshipping by proxy those who invented that God. Since the Satanist understands that all Gods are fiction, instead of bending a knee in worship to—or seeking friendship or unity with—such mythical entities, he places himself at the center of his own subjective universe as his own highest value."

We Satanists are thus our own “Gods,” and as beneficent “deities” we can offer love to those who deserve it and deliver our wrath (within reasonable limits) upon those who seek to cause us—or that which we cherish—harm.

We take a look at the possible Biological component of religious experience with Dr John C Wathey

John C. Wathey is a computational biologist whose research interests include evolutionary algorithms, protein folding, and the biology of nervous systems. From 1991 to 1995, he was a senior applications scientist at Biosym Technologies (now named Biovia), a company that develops molecular modeling software for the pharmaceutical industry. In 1996, he founded his own business, Wathey Research, and since that time most of his scientific research has been funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health. He is currently writing a follow-up work to The Illusion of God's Presence, which explores in detail the neurobiology of religious emotion and behavior.

In this episode Nathan, Jenn & Cal take a look at the infamous mid-90's documentary "Alien Autopsy - Fact or Fiction". Produced by Fox at the height of X-Files the influenced UFO/conspiracy craze and hosted by number one himself, AKA Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek Next Generation's Will Riker). Alien Autopsy focuses on the alleged footage of the US Army performing an autopsy on an apparent alien being, whose body was extracted from the Roswell "UFO" Crash.

This documentary whilst not in anyway remarkable serves as an interesting historical artefact, showing how in the pre-internet age memes and fake news were still prevalent.
