Truancy Sessions S02 E02: FNKD (@fnkd1)

Artwork by Lolo (@lolo-lolo-lolo-96)

We head to London today for the second episode of season 2, with FNKD taking the reins with a two-hour mix that covers a wide range of musical styles. Known for his monthly radio show on Aaja Music and his role managing Corsica Studios’ in-house night Small Talk, we caught Felix delivering standout selections at this year’s Gala Afterparty at The Carpet Shop and knew we had to feature him in the series. Featuring tracks from Steevio, Zenker Brothers, Asusu, Mark Pritchard, and more, the mix carries a captivating, chapter-like flow as FNKD transitions effortlessly in a way that covers a whole host of bases. It’s a true testament to his genre-blurring expertise, moving from low-slung house grooves to techy steppers to classic dubstep, culminating in an ambient, psych-out jazz finale. This is a mix that invites repeated listens, but we’re confident just one is enough to leave an impression.

Truancy Sessions S02 E01: o.rayan (@user-825739276-693586631)

Artwork by Lolo (@lolo-lolo-lolo-96)

Rooted in the vibrant sounds of West Africa, o.rayan's musical journey began in the Ivory Coast where he was born and raised. His eclectic taste, shaped by 90's house, dub, disco, r&b, and hip hop, infuses his selections with a unique perspective, pushing him to seek records unbound by genre or era. As a dedicated vinyl enthusiast, o.rayan has cultivated a global network of record-pooling communities, unearthing and digitizing rare gems that rarely surface elsewhere.

In this Truancy Sessions mix, o.rayan captivates with a kaleidoscope of intoxicating sonic rarities, offering a glimpse into his world of carefully curated, heartfelt sounds. Journeying through hidden corners of electronic music, the mix spotlights a series of bright and evocative selections from some of house music's unsung visionaries. Beginning with a nod to his Lebanese heritage, the mix flows ever-deeper into enveloping tracks marked by punching drums, lush pads, and drifting melodies, while the diversity of o.rayan's musical exploration shines through in multilingual vocals that bridge cultures through rhythm. His passion for vinyl is evident in the mix's impeccable quality and singular curation, each track revealing his exquisite taste for surreal, body-moving rhythms. Shaped by transformative experiences and fueled by his belief that “music and love are my fuel,” o.rayan's mix stands as a testament to music's enduring power to heal and inspire.

Truancy Sessions S01 E08: Sabrout (@sabro96)

Artwork by Kushagra (kushlet on Instagram)

After seven incredible mixes, we conclude the first season of Truancy Sessions with a DJ who perfectly embodies the ethos we envisioned when starting this series. Our goal was to build community and provide a platform for exceptional DJs we’ve met during our travels and connected with online as global friends. Born and raised in Cairo and based in New York for the past decade, Sabrout has been quietly emerging as a rising star with his distinctive approach to musical eclecticism. A former member of the music platform Delayed, Sabrout crafts sets that are both deeply personal and versatile, showcasing his extensive knowledge of dance music. His mixes for Palestine Forever—a collective dedicated to supporting humanitarian aid and raising awareness for Palestine—and for the NYC-based Salsabil, of which he is one third, exemplify his ability to seamlessly blend acid house, techno, breakbeat, ambient, R&B, and hip hop, all infused with genuine emotion. Sabrout describes his Truancy Sessions mix as a product of a breakthrough approach, focusing on intuition rather than overthinking. The result is a beautifully curated journey of rolling grooves, with a standout moment at 20 minutes when Dreamrdreamr’s "Zone 4 Booty Call" elevates the mix to new heights.
