In today's episode, I am super excited to have a great conversation with Angel Power, author of A Trucker Girl's Dream!
During our conversation, we dive into Angel's journey, and how she was able to turn her dream of becoming a professional driver and author into reality! A huge highlight of our conversation was the events that took place that had Angel go from a conversation at a coffee shop to a trip halfway across Canada.
A consistent message that I try and portray when discussing the transportation industry, is the variety of opportunities that exist within our industry that can literally be pursued by someone that is willing to say yes and just go for it.
Opportunities such as becoming a professional driver, a warehouse supervisor, maybe a dispatcher, or operations manager, or even getting into health and safety.
There are hundreds of ways you as a person, and as a professional can navigate your journey in our industry, yes, literally hundreds, but in order to get there – you need to be willing to get uncomfortable, and potentially scare yourself (not life or death fear but discomfort) to make your dreams your reality.
During today’s episode, Angel Power walks us through her journey in our industry, and how she was able to do exactly that – she was able to make her life long dream, something that has been in her blood since she was a kid, into her reality, and became a professional driver after a very interesting situation occurred.
Angel didn’t stop there, she also went on to write an incredible book, A Trucker Girl’s dream, and more!
I highly recommend purchasing a copy of A Trucker Girl's Dream here.

Today, I’m super excited to bring back to the podcast my friend Teresa Kiyawasew, owner of Kiy HR Services, and is also known as the HR Wizard!
During our conversation, Teresa and I dive into what are some key components of hiring correctly and guides us through the first part of an employee’s life cycle, known as Attraction. Here, we dive into key components you need to implement when considering hiring, actually hiring, and onboarding.
Teresa shares some must need advice for organizations to implement right away that are currently, or about to, hire, that will help them overcome some of the challenges that come with recruitment and retention!
During our conversation, Teresa mentioned two things that were huge takeaways for me.
First, when you mentioned “do you even need the position” and how you work with clients on completing a job analysis ahead of time – so much value for both the employee and the employer here to be confident in the needs of the role which helps make the right hire.
Second, when you mentioned being careful of the information you’re getting, and shared the story of the case law situation, super powerful and so true – we need to ensure we are complying with the correct laws!
I highly recommend checking out episode #88 on the Truck Focus Podcast, which is the original interview Teresa joined me on and you can learn more about her journey!

The transportation industry can provide an enormous amount of opportunities for one to pursue if they know what is available to them.

Today, I’m super excited to speak with Candace Rivers, owner of Fits Possible Trucking, who is on a mission to help change the lives of professional drivers and organizations within the transportation and logistic industries.
Candace’s story of how she came to start Fits Possible Trucking is absolutely amazing, as she quickly realized that professional drivers are not forgotten about and that they do matter.
With her years of experience in fitness and coaching, Candace is using her skillsets to work closely with the professional driver community and organizations, to help transform lives, and empower them that they do matter and that they need to be treated as such.
One of the largest challenges the transportation industry is facing currently, with respect to professional drivers, is recruiting and retention. Whenever I am scrolling through any social media platform, I see an overabundance of organizations hiring and there are noticeably fewer professional drivers in our industry collectively.
One approach that I believe will help not only recruit professional drivers into our industry, and attract people to organizations, but also help retain their services, is investing more time in creating a culture of appreciation and acceptance.
For more tips & ways to “Move Freight & Stay in Shape” with Candace, you can follow and find her on Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, LinkedIn, & YouTube by @FitsPossibleTrucking
TikTok being her most active social media platform.
You can also go to her website or email her.
Thank you again Candace for joining me on the Truck Focus Podcast, and for the mission that you are on!

Today, I’m super excited to speak with John Farquhar, owner of Summit Risk Solutions Inc, as we dive into his journey, and his approach to helping identify risk, and empower trucking companies to mitigate risk, through education, empowerment, and entertainment!
I encourage you to visit the Summit Risk Solutions website to learn more about John, and the impact his company is having in our industry.
In the transportation, logistics, and insurance industries, a common statement I hear being communicated is “there’s just so much to know, and so many rules to follow in trucking”.
I believe this statement to be true, there is a ton of information to know, but regardless of how much, it is crucial that you know and complies with the requirements.
I like to think of the regulations trucking companies must comply with, as the rules of the game a team needs to follow.
When you understand the rules of the game, and your team understands the direction from the coach, or in this case, owner or manager, it becomes a heck of a lot easier to win.
Just like all sports teams, trucking companies need to align themselves with mentors and consultants, like John and Summit Risk Solutions, to help them understand how to understand the requirements and be educated on how to comply with the requirements while operating as effectively and profitably as you can!
I encourage you to visit the Summit Risk Solutions website to learn more about John, and the impact his company is having in our industry.
During our conversation, John and I highlighted that he is the co-star of an exceptional podcast, Trucking Risk and Insurance Podcast which I highly recommend adding to your must-listen list! https://truckingriskandinsurance.com/
Each episode is jam-packed with value, education, and best of all, laughter and entertainment as John and fellow co-star Chris Harris educate the transportation industry!
Thank you again John for taking the time to join me on the podcast today, and for the impact, you continue to have in our industry!

In today's episode, I have a great conversation with Angela Thomson, MELT Driver Trainer with Cariboo Driver Training, and a recent graduate of the MELT program Monica Byrd!
During our conversation, we discuss some of the key components Monica learned that she believes other students need to be aware of, the overall experience of MELT, and what Angela is most proud of as she reflected on her time training Monica.
A huge takeaway for me is the importance of the relationship between the trainer and trainee, and the communication style utilized during training to help ensure who you are training is comfortable with not only the material being taught but able to ask questions along the way!
