Genesis 12 is the beginning of God's covenant relationship with Abram. God promises to bless Abram, and in these words of blessing, He calls Abram, forms him, and sends him. When we seek God's blessings, we envision some combination of health, wealth, and happiness. Abram does receive these things from God, but the true blessing is God's covenant grace, which is his greatest need. We, too, receive God's greatest blessing through Jesus, who brings us into a covenant relationship with God. And like Abram, he blesses us so that we can be a channel of blessings to this world.
