  • E23: I wasn't trained to train an SLP-A.

It's our final episode of the season 🎉 Thank you for coming along on this journey with us! We have loved every single minute of this and can't wait to come back and start a new season in a couple months!

We are thrilled to have our friend, Amy Hill, in the confessional to chat about everything SLP-A related! Amy is the perfect guest to have on to talk about this subject as she is the program director for the SLP-A program at Estrella Mountain Community College and AZ Executive Director of Clinical Support for Light Street Special Education Solutions - where she oversees SLPs and SLP-A's.

With the new SLP-A ASHA certification coming soon, this is a great listen for any SLP-A or SLP supervisor! Navigating this working relationship can be tricky! Hopefully this will help :)

  • E21: I was worried RTI would add to my workload.

In our previous episode about interpreting articulation norms we mentioned the use of RTI as a possible solution to providing earlier intervention. In this episode we are going to go in deeper on what that can look like and discuss if it's worthwhile! We are thrilled to have our friend, Laurel Bruce, an SLP and PhD student, in the confessional to share her experience and research!

  • E20: I used to pull IEP present levels out of my $@&!

Have you ever found yourself writing an IEP and filling out the present levels with something like "Johnny is a sweet boy with a nice smile who has lots of friends" and then nothing else? Yeah, us too! We are chatting about all of the frustration of current processes for gathering data at annual reviews as well as our big Aha! that led us to creating Present Level Assessments inside of SLP Toolkit.

  • E19: We have been interpreting the articulation norms all wrong.

Many of us have seen the new speech sound norms infographic published by McLeod and Crowe circulating on the internet and there are a lot of feelings about what this means for school based SLPs. We are thrilled to have Kelly Farquharson, Associate Professor at FSU and speech sound expert, in the confessional to chat all about it! This episode was eye opening for us as we discovered that these norms aren't "new" and we have been interpreting the standard circulated norms (i.e. Iowa-Nebraska) all wrong. This is an important discussion and one that made us a bit nervous as sometimes researchers and practicing clinicians view the therapy world through a different lens. Tune in to find out how this conversation went down.

  • E18: I used to avoid writing social goals because I didn't know how to measure them.

We were thrilled to have Ryan Hendrix with Social Thinking as a guest on this episode. We loved chatting about how best to support students with social learning differences. Lisa & I confess how we struggled with how best to assess, write objective goals and measure progress on pragmatic language skills. Ryan shares her discovery on how complex treatment is and everything she has learned in her role as a social cognitive therapist.

We are obsessed with all things Social Thinking so we may have geeked out a little bit :)
