  • "Theology Matters" with The Pellews: Science and The Mind of The Maker
Join Devin and Melissa Pellew as they discuss topics related to Christian apologetics, theology and worldview issues. During this episode, we are joined by special guest, Melissa Cain Travis, an Assistant Professor of Christian Apologetics at Houston Baptist University, who serves on the Contributing Writers team at Christian Research Journal. She earned a Master of Arts in Science and Religion from Biola University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Campbell University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in humanities, her research focusing on the history and philosophy of science and the historical interaction of science and theology. Melissa worked in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research for five years after obtaining her undergraduate degree, and has spent more than a decade studying the science, theology, and philosophy pertaining to the origins debate.
Melissa will discuss her newest book, Science and The Mind of The Maker: What the Conversation Between Faith and Science Reveals About God, which will release on July 3rd. In the book, Melissa explores the question of cosmic origins and our place in the grand scheme of things that has been debated for millennia. Why do we exist? Why does anything exist at all? Are We an Accident...or Not?
Today's popular narrative, based on advancements in science, is that it all happened by natural, random processes. Melissa Cain Travis points to powerful evidence that the opposite is true—that cosmology, astronomy, biochemistry, and other disciplines strongly support what she calls "The Maker Thesis," which explains the origin, rationality, and intricacy of nature and the human mind's capacity to comprehend it.

  • "Theology Matters" with The Pellews: Answering Feminist Criticism of The Bible
Join Devin & Melissa Pellew as they discuss topics related to biblical theology, Christian apologetics and worldview issues. This week, our special guest will be Dianna Williams, a native of Toronto, Canada and a graduate of Southern Evangelical Seminary, who holds a Master's in both Apologetics and Philosophy.
Dianna will be discussing one of the ramifications for theology of the Feminist Movement, Feminist Criticism of the Bible, from content in the chapter she wrote in Basics of Biblical Criticism: Helpful or Harmful? that was published in 2016. Feminist criticism of the Bible is predicated on the idea that the biblical text is a tool of oppression both created by men and used by men to cement the second class citizenship of women. While some feminist critics champion the view that Christianity should be done away with altogether, there are many who believe a new interpretation of the Bible is warranted- one that implements women’s experience as the criterion by which to determine the usefulness and authenticity of the biblical text.It may come as a surprise to some that the assumptions of feminist critics of the Bible aren’t just assumptions found in the culture or academy. They’re in the church too. These ideas aren’t just circulating in religious studies classes or gender studies classes; they’re also being contemplated by women who take their faith seriously—but aren’t quite confident in how to go about explaining that God isn’t a misogynist or the Scriptures weren’t invented by the patriarchy. Are there informed and rational answers to these ideas? Absolutely! Let's discuss!

  • "Theology Matters" With The Pellews: Nancy Pearcey on Love Thy Body
In this episode of Theology Matters, Devin & Melissa Pellew of Ratio Christi Apologetics Alliance interview apologist, theologian, best-selling author and professor, Nancy Pearcey. Formerly an agnostic, Pearcey has been heralded as “America’s preeminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual” (The Economist) and in addition to Love Thy Body has authored Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural Captivity, which won a 2005 ECPA Gold Medallion Award, and How Now Shall We Live? (coauthored by Harold Fickett and Chuck Colson), which won a 2000 ECPA Gold Medallion Award, in addition to other works.

  • "Grace and Forgiveness" The Claire Culwell Story
Claire Culwell met her biological mother in March of 2009. Her birthmother told her that her life was a miracle.
Claire's biological mom became pregnant at the age of 13. Her mother took her to an abortion clinic where she had a surgical abortion. A few weeks later she realized she was still pregnant so she found an out-of-state late-term abortion clinic to do a second abortion. At the clinic they informed her she had been pregnant with twins...ONE WAS ABORTED; ONE SURVIVED. They said it was too late to do a second abortion. Claire was born 2 weeks later.
Claire was born 2 1/2 months early. She weighed 3 lbs. 2 oz. and was placed on life support. Her hips had been dislocated and her feet were turned inward - all because of the abortion. She was adopted shortly after birth by an amazing family who she wouldn't trade for the world!
Claire now tells her story and speaks up for the unborn so that they can receive the same gift of LIFE she has! She shares her story of survival at many churches and pro-life events and was recently featured in an interview with Focus on the Family. Claire's life is a miracle and true testimony that God has plans for each and every person. The only explanation for Claire's survival is God's mercy and love.
