You can trust the Saint to deal with anything life throws at him with charm, imagination and steely determination....
Leslie Charteris was born in Singapore and moved to England in 1919. He left Cambridge University early when his first novel was accepted for publication. He wrote novels about the Saint throughout his life, becoming one of the 20th century's most prolific and popular authors.

The Saint Travels On And Intrigues
My own unadulterated aim is to read All of the Saint books written by Leslie Charteris.. every one of them in the order of their appearance. In the beginning was the Saint gang followed by Simon and friends, leading to the 2nd World War where he worked with the Allies. Released from the war, he has since then traveled the world where everybody knows his name, looking for his help or looking to frame him for whatever crime they can fit to his name of the Saint. The trouble is the stories tend to blend into one another, though we may love them. The stories in Trust The Saint got me excited..again. These stories are not nice at all.
The Helpful Pirate follows a trail thru the bump and grind of Germany and a grand con. The Bigger Game is a menage a trois of dares and actions with Simon issuing the final word of warning. The Cleaner Cure is a puzzle the Saint can't be connected with and yet provide the answer. The Intemperate Reformer takes on the case of one who uses morals and willing to bend the rules, bringing in the Saint's former associates. The Uncured Ham is a tricky business bringing a thief and actor into harm's way. The Convenient Monster takes on the mystery of a well known loch legend. These stories seemed to ring above the others in their own way and I hope they will capture you as well.
Trust The Saint is highly recommended!
Saint Saga #35
This collection, from 1962, finds the Saint variously in Hamburg, London, Paris, Hurley (England), Stockholm and Loch Ness.
The outer stories are rather formulaic and not very interesting, despite some entertaining trivia about the Monster in the last. But the two inner stories are minor gems.
In Paris, Simon attempts to help a frail chambermaid who, at her wits' end, has appealed to him for help against a particularly foul blackmailer. But the apparently easy task is unexpectedly complicated by Inspector Archimède Quercy of the Police Judiciare, whom we last met inThe Saint in Europe.
And, very unusually in a story of this late vintage, in "The Intemperate Reformer" we have the return of two old friends: Sam Outrell, Simon's janitor when he lived at Cornwall House before WWII; and Monty Hayward, his reluctant but stalwart fellow-outlaw throughGetaway, likewise over 20 years before.
Both of these stories compare with Charteris at his best, in the pre-War days. Whether they're worth the price of the book will of course depend on your budget.
