Bryan Fischer here with the Life and Liberty Minute. First Kings 1 tells the story of Adonijah trying to steal the throne from Solomon, King David’s choice to succeed him. Rather than wait his turn, wait for God to elevate him in His own time, Adonijah put himself forward and tried to lift himself up and place himself on the throne. His plans were exposed and frustrated and he spent the rest of his life under house arrest. The lesson here is that we must reject any temptation to angle or maneuver for position or to exalt ourselves. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, and He lifts them up in due time. God knows the plans He has for us, and nothing can stop Him from fulfilling His will for our lives. Let’s humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand, and believe that He will lift us up at the proper time, the time of His choosing, just as He did for Solomon.
