But have you discovered, like me, that's the way life is? There's option a and option b. There's the easy way, God's way, grace way, Holy Spirit way. And then there is option B. The hard way, my way, selfish way, the sin struggle way. Paul says here at the end of Romans 7; there's a b. There's the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. There's the law of sins and death. There's the law of God in my mind. There's the law of sin and death in my members. There's option a and option b. And everyday, we live in the realm of choices!

Paul is trying to argue, when he responds to this stupid hypothetical question; "Since I'm forgiven because of grace, can I just sin every now and then?" He says, "well I guess you could, but don't you realize that when you do that you are setting yourself up to become a slave of whatever it is that you commit yourself to? And since you've been freed from since and become a slave of righteousness, why don't you present yourself to righteousness. Why don't you offer yourself fully, unconditionally to Jesus Christ? Why don't you go for all the gusto that you have in Jesus? Because the more you surrender to Christ, the more you become like Christ.

At first glance, this looks like Christianity 401. It's Christianity for the advanced student of the faith! And it is every bit of that! But when you step away and look at the simple truth, it's Christianity 101! It is the message of hope and life to every person where ever they might be in their spiritual journey!

None of us are victims to sin anymore if we know Jesus Christ! Because our old self was crucified with Him so that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Jesus has broken the power of sin in our lives!

The focus is this. You've got to know the bad news so you can fully appreciate the good news! And the bad news is this; every person is sinful and seperated from God. That makes every person a candidate for the solution that only God can provide. The bad news is that every person is sinful and separated from God! But the good news is that salvation is made available to anyone who would believe in Jesus Christ!

We all have a history! We come into this world, Romans 5: 15-19 says, with a history in Adam! This is what God does. God gives us a whole new spiritual history. A whole new spiritual genealogy! He translates us out of our identity just in Adam and gives us a new identity in Jesus Christ!

It's a simple story with profound implications! Sin has entered the world! We don't think right, we don't feel right, we don't act right, we don't live right! And nobody else does either! I'm a sinner who sins and you are too! Because sin had entered the world! That's what Romans 5 is telling us! Now, if that's all there was that would just be bad news! But the gospel, the message of Jesus Christ, is good news!
