  • That They May Be One
This sermon examines the high priestly prayer of Jesus in John 17, specifically focusing on the petition for the unity of His disciples. The central message argues that Christian unity is essential for the church's strength and witness, serving as a defense against the devil and a prerequisite for effective evangelism. The preacher outlines a threefold basis for this unity: agreement in doctrine grounded in Scripture, shared purpose in glorifying Christ, and mutual affection among believers. While acknowledging the current fragmentation within the Reformed world, the sermon calls for humility and a commitment to confessional standards, particularly among church leaders. The tone is both convicting and encouraging, urging believers to examine their hearts for division and to trust in God's power to heal the body of Christ.

  • Image of Gold, Image of God
The mighty Babylonian tyrant specifically casts himself as a god, assuming we can tie this golden image to the golden head in the previous story. In fact, we must tie them together, for the text fastens them to each other with tight bonds of shared vocabulary and close juxtaposition. In literary terms, in other words, to bow before this image is to admit that no god can challenge Nebuchadnezzar. It's a functional claim to deity, though the text (and the monarch) carefully avoids saying that the image is an image of Nebuchadnezzar. It doesn't have to be to symbolize his unchallenged power, any more than we need to paint stars and stripes on the flanks of our ICBMs to let our enemies know that the destruction unleashed on them is "courtesy of the red, white, and blue." Into this carefully staged display of the tyrant's majesty step Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, three Judeans who believe in a God who can challenge Nebuchadnezzar for supremacy. Such a story is already inspiring enough. But this one really stands out because within it, Yahweh actually does challenge Nebuchadnezzar, and handily beat him in a way that the mighty tyrant respects. With God's help this evening I will show you that against the numbing power of imperial repetition, the three young men speak the truth that God saves, even if He lets us die — and then God's Son comes in person to save the young men, and even the tyrant sees it.

  • A Mindset For Faithful Ministry
In this 2 Timothy 4:1-5 sermon, Pastor Richard Caldwell examines A Mindset For Faithful Ministry when sound doctrine is rejected. Believers often romanticize Christian faithfulness, forgetting that standing for biblical truth in an unfaithful age brings real hardship. Looking at Paul's final charge in 2 Timothy 4, Pastor Richard Caldwell warns that seasons of spiritual rejection will inevitably come even within the local church. During these times, people with dissatisfied hearts will refuse sound doctrine and accumulate false teachers to suit their own ungodly desires and itching ears. Despite this intolerance toward healthy teaching, the urgent mandate for every servant of Christ remains unchanged: preach the Word in season and out of season. Ministers and believers must reprove, rebuke, and exhort with great patience, anchored in the final authority and sufficiency of Scripture. Rather than seeking the temporary approval of a wandering world, we serve before the face of God and look forward to Christ's appearing and His coming earthly kingdom. Fulfilling your God-given ministry requires personal commitments to sober-mindedness, endurance through suffering, and a steadfast love for winning souls. By measuring what is right solely by the Word of God, you can count it all joy when criticized or abandoned for the truth. Fix your eyes on the future judgment of Christ and finish your spiritual race with unwavering fidelity. Key Biblical Takeaways: - Expect Seasons of Rejection: Recognize that intolerance toward sound doctrine will arise within the professing church as people turn away from biblical truth to pursue myths that satisfy their fallen desires.

  • The World Rejects the Truth
In Mark 6, we find a literary intercalation. The Gospel author sandwiches the account of John the Baptist's death between the account of the first mission given to the twelve apostles. Herod tragically chose to preserve his worldly reputation over embracing the truth. This stands in sharp contrast to John the Baptist's unwavering faithfulness, even unto death. John's martyrdom serves as both a foreshadowing of Christ's own death and a sobering preview of what faithful gospel proclamation will cost the disciples. The lesson is clear. In Mark 8, Jesus says that whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, while whoever loses his life for the sake of the gospel will save it. True discipleship requires daily surrender of personal plans and ambitions to the sovereign will of God, with the assurance that the lives of believers are preserved not by their own efforts but by God's faithfulness.

  • The Results Of God’s Wrath – Part 6 (B)
Paul, reflecting of the downward spiral of humanity's rejection of God, the crux of Man's fallenness is idolatry. Paul speaks of the Devastating exchange (v25). They exchanged: God's glory for an image (23), God's truth for falsehood (25a), deified creation, and did not honor the creator (25b). Paul inserts the doxology, in exalting God's unique and incomparableness in Character and Essence. And idols are nothing. Thus, in applying (vv19–24), here's the need to: a) examine the areas that has a sustained proclivity of truth suppression, b) identify areas of exchange in your life c) be discerning and emboldened to resist cultural celebration of sin and lastly; d) if and when God's displeasure is made known, be sure to run to the gospel, and not away from it.

  • The Strange Woman: Recognizing the Predator
How can Christians recognize sexual temptation before it becomes destructive? Proverbs 7 exposes the tactics of a predatory seducer and shows why biblical wisdom, intentional discipleship, and covenant faithfulness are essential protections against sexual sin. In The Strange Woman: Recognizing the Predator, Solomon warns his son through the tragic picture of an inexperienced young man walking confidently into temptation. The message identifies warning signs such as forwardness, immodesty, manipulation, discontentment, flattery, false spirituality, and provocative speech, while emphasizing that these dangers can apply to both men and women. Parents and spiritual leaders are challenged to disciple young people biblically about sexuality rather than leaving the world to shape their understanding, pointing them instead toward purity, wisdom, and covenant love.

  • When God Reverses the Curse
When God Reverses the Curse Balak, Balaam, the Donkey, the Angel of the Lord, and a People Called to Display His Glory Malachi 1–4 • Numbers and the Balaam Account • Micah 2 • Revelation 1 • Romans 12 Central Truth: God is holy, His glory cannot be changed, and His purposes cannot be overturned. He can turn the curse of an enemy into a blessing, yet He can also turn the hollow blessings of His own people into a curse when their lives misrepresent Him. Therefore, those He has redeemed are called to hear Him, heed Him, honor Him, and hold forth His truth as priests, kings, living sacrifices, and messengers of His glory. A Holy God Who Shares His Glory Well, well, to God be the praise. Amen and amen. We serve a holy God. And when we say that God is holy, we are talking about His uniqueness, His glory, His beauty, His purpose, His person—everything about Him. There is none like Him. Nobody compares to Him. Nobody stands beside Him as His equal. He is altogether unlike anyone and anything else. And what a wonder it is that this holy God would choose to share His glory with people like us. What a wonder that He would bring us into partnership with Him for the work He has called us to do. We are not God, and we cannot add anything to His glory. We cannot improve Him. We cannot change Him. But He has chosen to put His name upon His people and send His people into this world as representatives of who He is. That means how we live matters. How we speak matters. How we treat people matters. How we handle the revelation God has given us matters. Because although we cannot change God's glory, we can distort how somebody else sees His glory. And that is one of the great
