  • 26-09-13 Engaging With AI in Spiritual Matters
Engaging With AI in Spiritual Matters Faith Debate: Sunday, September 13th, 2026 (09/20/26 on 930 WFMD in Frederick, Maryland) How serious are deepfakes? Can AI provide true spiritual counsel, as people replace true shepherding for algorithmic comfort? If used for sermons will AI bring bad preaching? Does tech erode understanding that human thought/creativity/relationships are unique/valuable because humans bear God's image? What's the case for/against engaging AI? Is it faithful, or failure, to disengage? If saints don't interact with AI, do they forfeit opportunity to shape it? Will Christian absence interacting mean the training data will skew further from a biblical framework? Is there a responsibility to engage AI development, prompt AI tools with theological content, & work in AI industries as a vocational calling? Or would this normalize a tech whose long-term effects are maybe corrosive? If only secular materialists are shaping AI's values, will the church one day complain about the fruit of a tree it refused to tend? This is part 5 of a 5-part series. • What To Look For In A Church
Do NOT look for friendliness, support and encouragement, charismatic speakers, entertainment, or preaching that doesn't require you to change. Look FOR Biblical truth, the truth about Jesus Christ, the truth concerning the gospel, the truth of scriptural baptism, the truth about faithfulness, and the truth about separation from the world.

  • (30) Judge the Church with Care
If you've ever shopped for a house, you know that the pictures often present a different scenario than what you find when you show up. The wide-angle camera lens and artificial lighting make the rooms seem larger and brighter than they truly are. Or maybe you've had the opposite experience. You've seen pictures of a home filled with trash and overgrown with out-of-control landscaping. But you knew that beneath the gloomy façade was a solid house worth saving. The point is, how things first present does not always tell the whole story. The same is true with the church of Jesus Christ. If we are careless, we might improperly judge the church in ways that will harm us spiritually. Psalm 48 urges God's people to "walk about Zion, go around her, consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels"—in other words, carefully inspect the church. And if we do so well, not based on outward appearances, but based on spiritual truth, we will be impressed by what we learn and be encouraged to tell the next generation about the God who promises to guide us forever (Ps. 48:12–14)

  • Leaving a Legacy
The sermon explores the spiritual legacy older believers should leave for younger generations, using Moses' song in Deuteronomy 32 as a primary framework. It emphasizes ascribing greatness to God, highlighting His mercy, grace, and steadfastness as essential truths to pass down. The preacher warns against the dangers of idolatry and disobedience, noting that such actions provoke God's jealousy and invite His loving chastening. Despite these warnings, the central message offers hope through God's boundless mercy, encouraging those who have strayed to return to Him without fear of being beyond forgiveness. Ultimately, the text calls listeners to prioritize God above all else and embrace His grace as they navigate life's challenges.
