Cory Gunz (IG: @corygunz174) … if you’re a real rap fan, you know him and are probably a fan. If you’re someone who likes rap, but just knows mainstream you may not know him but still have probably heard him. 6 foot 7 foot 8 foot bunch.
Whether you already know who Cory is or have heard his song with Lil’ Wayne titled ‘6 foot 7 foot’ or neither, this podcast should shed more light and insight into his world. Think it will provide you with value too if you’re a dream chaser.
He’s much more than a rapper whose signed to Lil’ Wayne. He’s a father, friend, dream chaser, good dude and more.
As for Cory’s rap career… he’s racked up millions of views online even before being signed to Lil’ Wayne and was (and is) well respected by those who appreciate lyricism. Jay Z and several other big names tried signing Cory before Cory decided to go with Lil Wayne’s Young Money.
We talked about everything from the journey to signing to Lil’ Wayne to recording process to sports to being a dad to his MTV show to politics to girlfriends to why he doesn’t release a lot of music and more.
Cory and I (Ben) met in Arizona in 2008, became friends and I helped book his concerts. More about that in the podcast too.
NOTE ABOUT QUALITY (from Ben): The audio did not record as nicely as I’d like. While this could partially be blamed on me traveling with equipment and being out of my “studio” it’s more so due to me being new to this world and apparently not knowing how to set up the audio as well as I should. Also, had some issues with the lighting going in and out a few times in the room we were in. Thanks for your understanding. I’m hopeful the quality will get especially better consistently after the first few dozen podcasts, realistically. And that may include additional camera angles as well.
NOTE ABOUT WHEN THIS WAS FILMED:
This was filmed on July 22, 2019. Simply put, it wasn’t released until now in 2020 because I (Ben) have been waiting for a time where I could start filming and releasing podcasts consistently. I didn’t want to release podcasts I filmed until I was in the position to be consistent.
I filmed the first 11 podcasts and then got super busy with work. Since the podcast doesn’t make me money I had to focus on what pays the bills. However, once I built my main business (Fresh Right Hand - marketing company) up enough to the point where I know now I can be consistent with the podcast (I have enough team to help take care of tasks to help keep growing biz) I’m beginning to launch the podcast. My goal is to release 1+ podcast per week consistently for a long time to come. We’ll see what happens, but that’s the goal.
Thanks again to Cory for sitting down to take some time to chat and open up publicly. And thanks to my boys Kal and Max (podcasts #1 and #2) for helping move equipment and set up behind the scenes. Note: any quality issue is my (Ben’s) fault. Kal and Max were just helping me move stuff around and put pieces together because they’re good friends of mine. :)
