Trying to control thoughts increases that overwhelmed feeling which is pretty much the opposite of what we are told isn't it?


We are told to think positively, have grateful thoughts and think about fluffy bunnies (well maybe not that one). Have you noticed how much work that involves?


Here's what I have seen around this. You have a negative thought, you judge it (and you) as wrong, you pull it back in to examine it and then you try to do something to change it. Result = more thoughts and more overwhelm.


Here is a different way. You have a negative thought, you notice it and you realise it means nothing about you. Then IT PASSES and you get on with your life.


Awareness is powerful when it is free from judgement and that is the easiest route to freedom from overwhelm.
